On a recent journey from New York to Florida, my family and I had the delightful opportunity to dine at Wild Roots Café, nestled in the quaint town of Romney, WV. Anticipation was high for this visit on April 20, 2024, as we were eager to experience the culinary creations of Erin and Josh, the minds behind this charming establishment.
Wild Roots Café transcends the typical dining experience, blending Erin and Josh’s personal touch with the cozy ambiance of rustic West Virginia. The décor is an artful homage to Appalachian aesthetics—every corner tells a story, and each detail is a whisper of the owners’ passion and dedication.
For our lunch, the menu catered to our diverse preferences wonderfully. My son enjoyed a classic PB&J that was both simple and satisfying, while my wife and I indulged in the club sandwiches. I opted for mine with gluten-free bread, a choice that did not compromise the sandwich’s flavor or texture. Each bite was a reminder of the café’s commitment to quality and flavor, catering to both traditional and dietary-specific needs.
The highlight, however, were the brown butter chocolate chip cookies. These delightful treats would not be out of place in a Michelin-starred restaurant, offering a sublime end to our meal. They encapsulated the essence of homemade perfection, their rich, buttery goodness melting effortlessly with each bite.
Erin and Josh have indeed knocked it out of the park, marrying the warmth of West Virginia hospitality with a flair for exceptional food. Wild Roots Café is a testament to their vision of creating a welcoming space where every meal is a celebration. We left with full bellies and warm hearts, already planning our next visit to support this amazing family-run gem.
Much Love and support, Jim, Yvonne and Killian...

First impressions were tasty aromas and ambient conversation supported by comfy and casual decor. The menu had several tantalizing options but one stuck out - the Muffuletta. We hadn’t had once since a trip to New Orleans years ago, but had a “what the hey” sense of whimsy and ordered one. Wow, what a pleasant and nearly 100% authentic surprise. The bread was spot on - crusty and with just enough heft to absorb all the traditional Muffuletta juicy goodness. The combination of spicy and fatty sliced meats, gooey cheesy spread and leafy veg chopped and doused with a bracingly acidic dressing were missing only the chopped olives to qualify as a NOLA impostor. Our order also included a decadently delicious lemon cake - I (barely) refrained from licking the plate. We overheard other patrons - some were obvious regulars, but a few others weren’t - gushing over their food and libations as well. Service was wonderful and personable, seating included tables and chairs as well as a sofa and casual seating. Board games and a huge array of books were available for non-dining distractions. So huge thumbs up for Wild Roots -...
