Before this is read, I will give a brief detail for those who don't want to read an essays worth. The breakfast food was underwhelming and the place felt dull. Dinnertime was a significant improvement, food was great and the place was lively. 2/5 star Food 3/5 star Service 1/5 star Atmosphere Overall 2/5 Star Breakfast
Went for the first time to experience the food, the people, and the atmosphere to be met with a fairly underwhelming experience.
The food I received, which was the Monster Omelette (a special as compared to their usual), did not have much flavor or personality past the gravy put on it. The eggs were just eggs as what can be expected, but everything else in it was hardly noticeable past the texture and slightly undercooked. The only thing that could be tasted was the gravy and that was unfortunate to say the least. Could do some real justice if it had some extra seasoning/cooking. Even if there is a very good amount of food itself put on the plate, the quantity does not meet a satisfying quality. I would actually prefer a little less if it meant that I were able to have more flavor.
Past that, the atmosphere felt very somber. Safe to say that I felt more anxious and nervous sitting in the dining area than I felt warm and welcomed. It was also unfortunate that multiple flies in the restaurant had decided to start gathering around me as my food came out. There isn't much to do past that other than setting some more traps for those pests.
The waitress that had served me attended to me immediately however and did well checking in/up with me. I had asked about potentially adding a half order of sausage onto my already existing meal and was told that only full orders were sold, which is fine. I however opted to not add it on as I knew I wouldn't eat the whole full order side. 4/5 star Food 5/5 star Service 4/5 star Atmosphere Overall 4/5 star Dinner
Felt like a very lively place during dinner time. While I may not have spoken very much to others/staff. The customer's interactions with one another and with the staff invigorated me and made me feel good in spirits.
The waitress that took care of me tonight, Cyndi, was great. Incredibly attentive and on top of it. Took care of me when I had wait time.
The food I had tonight was definitely a night and day experience compared to the morning time. While I may not return for breakfast to this place any time soon, I was relatively impressed with dinner. Their salad was plentiful and healthy, though next time personally I might ask for less shredded cheese. The Italian Steak deluxe sandwich for most parts was great. The distribution between the mushrooms, cheese, sauce, and bacon were very well done. However, the only drawback of it was the hamburger made for it. In the menu, it's listed as a 'patty' which is exactly what I got. Unfortunately, it left a lot of empty space on either side of the bread. I believe this sandwich would benefit tremendously from pounding out the steak thinner and allowing it to be throughout the whole sandwich. Past that, I should have added a pinch of salt to the sauce to help amplify the flavor of it. I now know...
Read moreStopped because the only other option as we drove through town was a very busy McDonald's drive thru. This is not fast food. Took a couple of minutes to get waited on and then people who placed orders after us got their food long before we did. I hope no one has COVID here. There was absolutely no mask wearing among staff or patrons,(who wore them on the way in and on the way out for the most part). None of the staff wore a mask except one who must have had a cold chin because that is where the mask stayed during our entire visit. Once we got our food it was presented nicely and very tasty. But, if you have any immune compromise, I wouldn't come to the Rose City Cafe, at least until COVID is under control. We also thought it was pretty expensive for what you get, a small fajita wrap sandwich and a salad was $11 + tax. My reuben and fries was bigger and a better value for $9 + tax, but the bread was soggy from the sauerkraut. Thanks to the owner for the response to my review regarding the timing. Maybe it seemed longer because I was fixated on no one abiding by the CDC recommendations of mask wearing and...
Read moreThe first thing you’ll notice when you park, is the overbearing smell of grease surrounding the outside. Red flag #1. Went here for the first time today, had great expectations!! Sat down, after 10 minutes a younger girl brings me a menu and informs me my server will be right with me. Red flag #2, I should’ve left then. 10 more minutes go by, I’ve basically had so much time waiting to speak to a human being, I have memorized the menu, I keep making eye contact with the server who is completely ignoring me, even though she is literally at the table right behind me talking to the patrons. At this point, I’ve wasted 20 minutes sitting in this grease hole, I get up to leave and go somewhere I can ACTUALLY get food, and she starts walking toward me, no thanks, bye Felicia, peace out. I had never tried this place after driving past it for 39 years, and i now know it was the universe telling me something. Heck, I get actual service and less greasy smelling clothes after having gone to McDonald’s across the street!!...
