My boyfriend and I eat here multiple times a week, sometimes an embarrassing amount. Our go to spot. There was a time when this place seemed to care, however now it seems that is not the time. A few times we have come about an hour before they closed and it’s always the same thing: cold chips; waiting forever. Today was our worst experience. We ordered cheese and it was room temperature. We were very hungry and it really didn’t bother us much. Then we ordered another cheese and it came before the food. It was very cold. A waiter brought our food and we told him about the cheese. He took the cheese away and we started to eat our food. It was freezing cold and we were one of the few tables in the restaurant so we were upset, confused, and ready to leave. We went to pay up front and the girl didn’t make us pay and apologized. Our waitress was amazing and none of this of was her fault. She refilled chips and drinks without us asking and was very apologetic when we were leaving. My boyfriend has lived here his whole life and has been a returning customer. He remembers a time years ago when it seemed the staff got lazy and a lot of people started to try New Mexican restaurants. It seems that may be happening again. This has driven away two of your most loyal customers; we will...
Read moreIt was Tuesday, so I had to have tacos. My favorite taco recently has been shrimp. Most of the places I frequent, add large grilled tacos. I was surprised to see small shrimp bites here at Casa Romero. They may have been small, but the flavor was still huge and enjoyable. I'd order them again.
When I arrived, I was pleasantly greeted and told I could sit any where I wanted. I chose a booth and was quickly served complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were crisp and warm, which tells me they were super fresh. The salsa had just enough spice and was thick enough to cling to the chip when dipping.
Before my entree, I also enjoyed a Top Shelf Margarita and an order of Bean Dip. The Margarita was strong. It was strong enough that I only had one and I typically enjoy two. An order of Bean Dip for me is much more enjoyable than a side of Cheese Dip or Guacamole. The mixture of white cheese and refried beans, doubles the flavor.
The ambiance is your typical, bright Mexican colors and sorta tacky decor. For my own personal preference, I could dim the lights a tad. It was extremely bright and the white ceiling lights are a little...
Read moreRating right down the middle as far as stars. There's really nothing different regarding good quality between as compared to El Mezcal, Panchos, etc. Solid 5.1 out of 10. Typical American versions of Mexican Classics. Need to make sure the lettuce in your Taco bowl thing isn't put in the fried shell DRIPPING WET. There was a half inch of what I HOPE was water in the bottom of the shell. Kinda ruined the whole thing. Carnita was pretty darn flavorful but I know the meat was definitely not freshly made that day. No worries on that and I still ate most of my plate. Good job for this place. Needs a light remodel on the inside. Wait staff was really great, Dos Equis was crisp and cold and didn't mind leaving a hefty tip at the end of our experience. I'm a chef, so I get the struggles of the...
