QUE PASA TAQUERIA — Restaurant in Royal Oak

I’ve only ordered carryout twice, both times were a very pleasant experience. The counter staff is amazingly polite and helpful. They give you a discount if you pay in cash. I had no clue about the discount, but I always pay in cash when ordering at a small local business anyway so it was a nice surprise. I work for a small business and those monthly credit card fee fees alone, eat up such a huge portion of your profits. Also, I’ve noticed that a lot of local restaurants have started giving small discounts to people who pay in cash, and that is a great incentive for us to keep our local businesses thriving in our current economic state.

Both times I just had to adjust my order due to the fact that I’m vegetarian – but no problem. Everything still tasted amazing and the prices were spot on. They are also extremely generous with extra guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. I didn’t even ask for it and both times it was in my bag and I appreciated it because a lot of places charge extra for sides. I would have no problem paying extra for sides, however, they are awesome enough to give them to you.

I have to say the queso is the best queso I’ve had anywhere around the Metro Detroit area (yes, even in Mexican town and from many restaurants). It’s not too spicy, it has wonderful flavors, and if you want to indulge yourself, it is a great addition to your meal.

I only have one minor request. If they were to add maybe two or three vegetarian options on their menu – that would be amazing. Like an avocado taco or a fried potato taco. It’s their menu and not mine-so I have no say in that. However, many people are vegetarian now and just seeing a few vegetarian items on a menu can pull in people who are on the fence about certain restaurants... This is not going to stop me from ordering from them in the future because I’ve already ordered from them twice in one week and I know for darn sure I’ll be...

My Fiancé and I Go-To Date Night Spot! Que Pasa Taqueria has become a beloved part of our date night tradition, and for good reason! My fiancé and I go every chance we get, and we are never disappointed. From the moment you walk in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere makes it feel like home. The staff are always friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about providing an exceptional dining experience. Gustavo, in particular, stands out—his cheerful personality and outstanding service truly elevate the experience. Now, let’s talk about the food! It’s nothing short of spectacular. The tacos are generously packed with flavorful meat, perfectly sautéed onions, and just the right amount of melty cheese—every bite is a burst of deliciousness. You can taste the quality and care that goes into every dish. And then there’s the elote… oh, the elote! It’s quite literally the best food I’ve ever eaten. Creamy, savory, and topped with just the right amount of spice, it’s an absolute must-try. Honestly, we’d come here for the elote alone, but the rest of the menu keeps us coming back for more. The service is always impressively fast, which is perfect for those moments when you’re starving and can’t wait to dig in. Despite the speed, there’s never a compromise on quality. The food is excellent—the portions are generous, and their burritos are especially delicious! This is one of the best Mexican places outside of Southwest Detroit, IMO, and I plan on returning in the future.

However, I’d recommend dining in the restaurant because the carryout time estimates aren’t always accurate. Although their online system said that my carryout order would be ready within 15-30 minutes, I waited approximately one hour for my food last night along with a large group of other customers. To be clear, I don’t blame the workers AT ALL for this—I’ve worked in the food service industry, and I know what it feels like to be slammed during rush-time (it’s terrible). I felt that the workers were doing their best to keep everyone updated about our orders, which I appreciated! Also, in the interest of fairness, I should note that this happened around 7pm on a Friday night, so it’s very possible that this kind of delay wouldn’t have happened during a less busy time (like a Monday afternoon).

I’m sharing my experiences not with the intention of shaming the workers or deterring people from patronizing this wonderful restaurant, but just so that you approach their online takeout system with realistic expectations. I also hope that management considers increasing staffing or updating their time estimates for carry-out orders—I wouldn’t have minded waiting one hour if I had known about this ahead of time.
