The Coronet Seafood Restaurant Experience (Dine-In Edition). My aunt wanted some seafood on this day, so the family went to Rural Hall, NC, to eat. Upon entering the establishment, I got a whiff of great-smelling food. The server came to the table, greeted us, and took our orders. I ordered the small popcorn shrimp plate. While waiting for my food, I went to the restroom, which appeared clean. Upon returning from the bathroom, the table had complementary hushpuppies, which were tasty. Once the food came, I was glad I ordered a small order. I had plenty of shrimp on my plate. I couldn't imagine what a large order would look like. The food was fresh and hot and tasted good. The server was pleasant also, and I liked their spirit.
So, would I return? I thoroughly enjoyed my food and service until I got to the counter and saw the sanitation grade of 90.5, which made me feel sick. I am always curious when seeing a 90 range, which is still an A but lower than I like when eating seafood. Once at home, I went online to see why the rating was low at Forsyth County Restaurant Inspections (this is public information on the Forsyth County Health Department page). Under the Observations and Corrective Actions, I saw a few unsettling things:
8 2-301.12 Cleaning Procedure (P), 2-301.14 When to Wash(P) Wait staff enters the kitchen to prep salads and drinks without washing hands.
16 4-501.112 Mechanical Warewashing Equipment, Hot Water Sanitization Temperatures (Pf) The Dish machine, when first ran, registered at 159F and ran again measured 156F on both the inspector and facilities thermometer. Provide a minimum of 180F rinse water for sanitization when using the dish machine.
38 6-501.111 Controlling Pests (Pf) Heavy fly presence in the kitchen and throughout the facility.
41 3-304.14 Wiping Cloths, Use Limitations (C) Wet wiping cloths stored on prep surfaces and soiled wiping cloths stored on the back line. Wiping cloths shall only be stored in buckets of sanitizer or dry, not visibly soiled.
Due to this occurrence, I am still determining if I will return. I continuously check the inspection scores of all the restaurants I eat. Knowing that health inspectors were present and observed things makes me wonder what staff will do when someone is not watching. Now, that is the scary part. Nevertheless, I will not be returning until Coronet's...
Read moreI'm going to try to give a fair review because I love this place and I've been going here ever since I was a little girl before my mom even passed. I live in Lewisville so I will often drive all the way to Rural Hall just to get a plate from this seafood restaurant because they truly are the best food hands down and some of the staff such as Lana is truly amazing and makes you feel welcomed and actually get your order right :-) A lot of people inside are truly fantastic but here's where I get sadly to the honest and opportunity part of my review the takeout area can do much better! I called prior before I even left Lewisville to try to place an order and spent almost 10 minutes seriously trying to figure out why they weren't able to write down what I'm saying I was only getting four plates but I had to repeat myself about six times and I didn't even really get upset because I knew four place was a lot so I said well let's just start over because she's like I'm so sorry about this I don't understand why I don't get it. Needless to say I ended up hanging up the phone because I was getting too frustrated and I didn't want to say anything rude so I just said I will drive all the way up there and place the order and then wait. Well then I do that and my order was not exactly what I wanted and instead of owning it I was told that I didn't say something I know for a fact was confirmed. It was a busy day it was a holiday so I came with the understanding that I was going to have to wait but I will definitely say next time I would actually prefer to go sit inside wait order my food ask for to go box and walk out as opposed to do the actual takeout area. I still left a tip but I was very unhappy with this experience enough to make me come out here haha and leave this review but I will end it with again saying best seafood around hands down just definitely need to work on that...
Read moreWhen I was fresh out of high school four brother's from Greece had a restaurant in Winston Salem called Coronet Greek Restaurant on Peters Creek Pkwy.. This was actually my first real job prior to UPS and future Music career. George, Gus, Nick and Larry were the brothers. My mother purchased my first car from one of the brothers Nick who sold it to us for only $500 bucks. Years after they eventually closed the location in Winston and opened up Coronet Seafood in Rural Hall which has been around now for over 40 years. So today I stopped in for dinner with the hopes to catch one of the brothers there. I shared my story of working with the brothers with my waitress at the original Coronet in Winston and asked her if George was in. She told me he was in Greece but his nephew Johny was in. She went to the back and within a few minutes Johny Kontos came out who is the son of Larry who unfortunately had passed away several years back. We talked story for a bit and he was very happy to meet and talk with someone from the beginning days at the original Coronet. I told him I remembered him as a very young kid at times when Larry would bring them to work. What a blessing to see him now carrying on what the four brothers worked so hard to establish for their families. Truely great men who came from Greece to build the American Dream and worked extremely hard day and night to turn it into a reality of success. Amazingly along their journey our paths met and they gave a young black kid the opportunity to establish work and advance from busboy/ dishwasher into cooking on occasion. I'm am thankful to know them all. Johny would not allow me to pay for my meal. Larry would be...
