I got here around 9ish at night & some things I do like about this place is that they have outdoor dining & if the weather permits, would be awesome. It was a bit breezy & honestly I don't care for my food getting cold faster than it has to depending on what I order.
Things that were meh: Sushi & appetizer that we ordered. My hubby ordered a Blue Moon tap & they were out so he had a bottle instead.
Things I did not like: Inside was too dark, ahard to read the menu. The tonkatsu ramen because the noodle texture was super weird. Maybe it's us, idk. The broth was on the salty side. The noodles looked fine but when you eat it, it's almost like eating raw noodles. It's not chewy, nor doughy, nor soggy. We just didn't care for it. Also, service was horrible. The waitress was friendly & we were greeted right away & received our menu however, it took forever for the waitress to come back to take our orders, then forever to receive our food & the ramen did not come out till we were way done eating 1 roll + appetizer, no one ever checked in on us as we needed our water refilled, had to finally ask for our bill so we can hurry up to pay & leave. Side Note: The kitchen actually closed up & the couple behind us didn't get one of their orders. The waitress had to go back & tell the chef. They probably didn't even get that item comped which I felt they should've. Shoot, I felt they should've comped my ramen since it took so long to come out & no one even apologized for it. I'm not one to make a big deal unless it absolutely called for it but just saying, ya know?
Recommendation: Go if you want to try some place new but don't expect "wow" either in food or service; just mediocre food plus bad service. Definitely do not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAvoid the ramen at all costs. Had a piece of plastic in my ramen too!
Pros: Service was good, servers were nice and pleasant. Restaurant had a really nice interior, great design. Music was upbeat and hip it was a nice vibe. Unagi Don was solid, although they couldnāt put the sauce on the side for some reason and just served it to us straight up without even asking us if that would be okay. Not sure why because it looked drizzled on the top, but at least it was easily scraped off.
Neutral: Breaded Japanese chicken curry was very mediocre. Not the worst, not the best just in the middle
Bad: The āTonkatsu Ramenā definitely tasted like a roast chicken Ramen packet with extra toppings in it. Iām almost positive it was in some regard. When restaurants donāt advertise that the ramen is cooked in pork bones for xx hours, you know itās probably a bad sign. Whatās worse is when I bit into my meat halfway through, a piece of plastic somehow was in the meat. I thought it was a shrimp shell but I didnāt order shrimp and it was unmistakably a piece of plastic. Not sure what piece of cooking would require a packet of plastic⦠but it was definitely there.
To their credit they took off the ramen off the bill so they were nice about it. But even the taste just wasnāt right.
Tip: they do have parking on the side of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is kind of an odd place. First about the food. It is pricier than most Japanese places, but you're paying for some interesting dishes that show a lot of creativity and great presentation. That's an odd contrast to the atmosphere and service, which is relatively gritty. Of the Japanese places I know in Sacramento, this is the one where you'll find the most rock and roll types, although it is a mix and the lunch crowd includes a lot of state worker types as well. Often the servers seem really inexperienced with that type of job and seem odd choices, like maybe the restaurant has a reputation for hiring ex-cons. The owner is always present and working alongside his employees, and making sure his customers are happy, which makes you want to like the place. Less than five stars just because I find the atmosphere and staffing weird, and because if I'm going to pay for expensive creativity in my food I want the...
