China Cafe — Restaurant in Saint Augustine

This has been the place we have ordered from for the past 3-4 years. It was always cooked fantastic. Unfortunately, the last 2 times (including tonight), we've been quite disappointed. Last time, our noodles still had water at the bottom of the container. They were also pretty broken, like smaller pieces instead of the long noodles we were used to. To add to the food issue, we were quoted 15-20 minutes for our food to be ready but ended up being 25 minutes MORE in addition to the quoted time. I'm thinking that it might be a hiccup, and it was just an off night until tonight. We call the order, we're quoted 25-30 minutes. So we make a stop before we head to pick up the food. We arrive within 30 minutes, and we're told it would be 5 more minutes (ended up being 15 more minutes) until we paid the little girl for our food. We get home and start eating about 10 minutes later to find the noodles ARE SWIMMING in water, very broken and barely any chicken. Opened and tried the rice and the same thing. Rice was undercooked and barely any chicken. Needless to say, our 5 star dropped to 2 (only because we've been going there a while) We might try it one more time, but...

The best Chinese food in St.Augustine IMHO! China Cafe is a family owned/operated that uses fresh produce and natural ingredients to make DELICIOUS Asian fare. They offer both take out or in house dining, with very efficient service to boot! Seriously the best Chinese food I've had in St. Auggy, and definitely as good as eateries of Japantown in Frisco! In fact, it was as super tasty as the food I bought from Uwajimaya in Seattle!

Prices range anywhere from $2.75 for a fried rice to $11.00 for the seafood entrees; they also offer a lunch special from 11am-3pm for $5.25 which is a choice from 32 entrees served with pork fried rice and a drink. A dinner special is also offered for $7.25 which is a choice from 32 entrees served with pork fried rice and an egg roll. I've only had the lunch special (as well as the take out food), but the lunch special was enough food for both lunch and dinner that day! They also have party trays that range from $20-$28 depending on what combinations you choose.

Well. It smelled so good in there BUT once we got it home it just wasn’t right. The honey chicken didn’t have anything on it. It was the same chicken as the sweet & sour but dry. The sweet & sour chicken looked like chicken and tasted like chicken for the most part but a few pieces had a funky smell to them. The sesame chicken tasted like fish. I’m going to bet the chicken (or dog or cat or most likely rat) had been sitting out for awhile. I’ll keep you updated on if my husband sleeps in our bed or the bathroom tonight. The orange chicken wasn’t really orange flavored and was partly RAW. However, if you’re up for a challenge, ask for spicy fried rice. Needless to say, we’re still hungry.
