First time here. It's a nice spot in St. Francis. There is a good-sized parking lot out front. It has the look of a small home. When you enter through the front door, it's just a short walk to the counter to order. There are café tables outside, and a bunch of other tables inside for different-sized groups. They have an extensive menu of hot/cold beverages, both teas and coffee. If you are hungry, they offer pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and Mexican tacos, quesadillas, etc.
Came on a Saturday, late morning. There was a short line of cars that were ordering at the window. The place was already crowded, and there was also a line for the counter. Grabbed a menu while I was in line. It was a bit loud inside, and getting louder as more people showed up. It was a bit of a wait until I arrived at the counter.
They offered some interesting variations on the standard coffee/tea offerings. I decided to try the Neblina Tea Latte. To me, it's a Mexican version of a London Fog Tea Latte, but they use chamomile instead of Earl Grey, and horchata instead of milk. They had some really good-looking pastries, and the server recommended the Conchas Twist, filled with strawberry.
Waited a little while to get my order. Because of the noise level inside, we decided to grab a table outside. That might have been a mistake because there were plenty of hornets flying around, trying to get into the drinks and the sweets. But we decided that it would still be better than dealing with the noise inside.
Both the Neblina and the Conchas were good choices. The Neblina was hot, well-steeped, and had a nice bit of cinnamon on top. The Conchas was fresh, nicely sugared, and the strawberry filling was a nice treat.
Lots to like about this place. However, the issues with the noise inside and the hornets outside would give me pause in...
Read moreA quiet and chill spot — or at least, it used to be. I’m updating my review after four years because this place has grown, and for good reason. What was once a quiet hidden gem has become a busy local favorite. Sometimes the wait can be up to an hour when it’s packed, but that’s not really a complaint — it just means people have caught on. It’s a good place, and it’s clearly up-and-coming.
The moment you enter this place, you feel like you’re stepping into someone’s personal dream. Someone imagined this entire place and made it real — and it shows. It’s that personal.
This is an immigrant-owned business. That means something to me, and you can feel the personal touch in this place. La Finca is also family and women-owned. It’s perfect for the neighborhood which is in serious need of small local and family businesses, and this spot fills a really important role.
Inside, the space is open and with generous lighting — a great spot to read or get some work done when it's not too busy. They made the right design choices, in my opinion. It’s the opposite of Colectivo or Starbucks with their dark wood interiors. This place has its own vibe.
They have a drive-thru which accepts walk-bys and bicycles, but I highly recommend that you get into the store to see it from inside.
I've had many different menu items from here. Everything I’ve tried has been good. The menu has a wide variety of drinks and food, including hot sandwiches. I personally like the grilled chicken sandwich.
This is the kind of place you want to support so it sticks around. I’ve always felt comfortable here. It’s clearly owned by real people who care — and I’m really happy to hear they’re opening a new branch in West Allis. They deserve all...
Read moreThe best feeling is accidentally stumbling on a hidden gem that not only delivered exceptional coffee but ridiculously delicious foods!
First, the cold brew. It's a finicky thing cold brew, it's either really good or really not good and in this instance I was blown away by the quality and smoothness of it. I could down a gallon of their cold brew and rivals some of the best out there!
The iced horchata latte can be deceiving with its sweet ingredients but it's in fact balanced and spiced just right! And not overly sweet!
Now for the food! I know y'all are thinking, coffee shop? Food? You mean pastries? No, this is NOT your typical food offering. They have Mexican American fusion offerings that make this place a pleasant surprise.
The hits for me: The cucumber avocado, for the less adventurous it has chunky avocado spread, fresh cucumber slices, and I definitely recommend the bacon and egg add ons. Simply delicious classic
Now the main event, the chicken and chorizo burrito. Flavor paradise! And that salsa will be the heat that will make you feel things again. This could easily be served in a restaurant that's how high quality it tastes. The move is to order with grilled pineapples and sour cream on the side to douse the fire from the salsa. It's just such a surprise to be eating something so delectable in a coffee shop of all places! And the house made chips are addicting, expect to eat the entire thing!
Thanks Milwaukee, y'all are full of surprises, and it's...
