Las Islas Marias — Restaurant in Salinas

Update 01/2024 I came here last time and ordered the 7 mares, but I didn't get any crab legs. When I asked, they just said they didn't have any, same price though... The place was a bit dirty too. That was about a year ago (I'm from out of town). Today I went again, and again I was disappointed. The food was ok at best, nothing special. I had to go from table to table to get a little bit of ketchup, all the bottles were empty and disgusting. Also the tables was dirty and super sticky, salt shaker was empty and covered with who knows what, gross. All the chili bottles were old, empty and crusty. The Tv was at full volume and still had the demo flair on the screen (what???) Double doors were wide open, gusts of wind were a bit too much. The place has gone down hill, maybe the reason this place was empty... probably won't come back. It's shame because I used to like it... This place was a bit out of the way for us, but definitely worth the drive. The place was clean and the staff was really friendly and attentive. The food was excellent! My son had the 7 mares soup (sooo good), my wife had the coctel de camaron, and I had the aguachil rojo. Everything was very fresh, flavorful and delicious. The green salsa they give out with the chips was addictively spicy, we couldn't stop eating it, though it's extremely hot. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back and try something different.

Side note: there's a review from an upset customer complaining he got oysters without cocktail sauce... this is a Mexican restaurant that serves Mexican food. In Mexico, they don't put cocktail sauce on...

I am surprised this place has that many stars. I had too many bad experiences on one visit. First one, they had no natural water, so I had to order agua fresca (that did not come with ice, I had to drink it room temperature, so it wasn't so fresca) 2: The restaurant had no other customer but myself and coworker, on our hour lunch. But even that hour wasn't enough to get my food. I had to pack it up and go as soon as I got it because I had zero time to eat it. On top of that, the lady questioned me with attitude as to why was I leaving without eating. 3: Sanitation is not practiced here. My straw was an open straw(without packaging) which she held without gloves or even a napkin to avoid touching it. As well as for my lemons. She tossed the cut lemons around in here hand as she walked over to me to hand them over. She dared to place them differently on my food. Which made me uncomfortable after watching her toss them around in her hands. She could've placed them in a container to avoid man handling them so much. 4: My plate was suppose to have rice and beans per the menu's description, after an hour of waiting my food finally came out but it had fries instead of beans. They didn't ask if that was okay. After coming back to work other coworkers mentioned their horrible experiences here too.

Do not go here. Don't waste your money. Find better...

I ordered a reg shrimp cocktail to go and a large campechana both cold with no onions. When I got home I seen that both containers were the same size and both had onions. I called and the girl on the phone argued with me that first what I got was correct then said I needed to come back which is already ridiculous, then tried to get me to send a picture of my food to the cook. Just unprofessional, from a place I’ve been to a couple times. I’ve gotten larges and these are not the containers, they are the same containers they have up at the counter that say regular. And to think I’m going to send pictures to random numbers is even more ridiculous. Just a bad attitude when I wasn’t trying to be rude just wanted what I paid for. Could’ve resolved it nicely but kept telling me...
