Employees don't wash their hands. Manager didn't care.
Lady was eating while prepping tortillas. Sat the food down on the counter while she did something, picked it back up, put it in her mouth and kept prepping. When she started bagging customers food I asked the manager (he is usually really good, usually amazing customer service) to have her change gloves and wash hands if she was going to handle my food. He said something to her. She took her gloves off and stared at me. Then she walked to the lobby to fill up her drink, while doing so she is touch her face and hair. She immediately went back to the food prep area and grabbed gloves (did not wash hands or put the gloves on) and grabbed her next bag of flour. I told the young man making the food, that since she does not was her hands that I will not be eating there. I slowly walked out of the restaurant, waiting for someone to say something to me OR to her but that didn't happen. I sat it the parking lot and watched the lady continue to work without washing her hands while I waited on hold for 10 minutes for the Cafe Rio call center (I guess they get so many complaints that the managers can't handle the calls) Nobody ever stopped her. If I can't trust that they run a clean store why the hell would I eat there.

Not changing gloves after eating
Not changing gloves between job areas (prepping dough to handling completed orders)

Read moreWe came into the restaurant and ordered a kids quesodilla and an adult quesodilla. We tried to order Elotes but they were out and did not want to make more so we proceeded to check out. At check out we asked for a water cup and a soda cup. We went to the table and ate. I then went to scan my reciept into my cafe rio rewards app. It was then that I noticed we were also charged for a Kids Soda. I went up to the counter and I said, "hello, there seems to be a mistake, I was charged for a kids soda cup but we only got a water cup with our other soda cup." Marcos then said "no mistake, people drink soda from the water cup. So I put a kids soda cup, they are the same." I then explained that it didn't matter what others had done, and it was unfair to assume that and charge us for something we hadnt asked for. He tried to argue with me that other people did it. I explained it again and he again insisted that others did it. He eventually decided to give me a dollar cash back. While doing so he then began to say its just a dollar. I explained that it was just a dollar but it is also the principal. He then said "its a fricking dollar lady, its not a fricking thousand dollars." It turns out Marcos is the manager. It's worth the drive to the state street one. The food is also of a higher quality there. And of course, I've never been sworn at or charge incorrectly...
Read moreMy son and I flew into Salt Lake City on an early flight from Philadelphia - our first time flying to Utah - to see my daughter who lives in Provo. We were two hours ahead and ready for lunch and she recommended Cafe Rio and to get the sweet pork. ✅ We were their first customers and it was like they were happy we were there. My son loved that they have the traditional horchata drink and in addition to my sweet pork burrito- which was so delicious with the fresh pico and cilantro - I tried their Elotes (Mexican street corn) and that was also incredible, super fresh and creamy. The manager brought a little lime pie to us with the whipped cream & strawberries - wow. Don’t miss it. The store was really clean and bright, and it was getting busy by the time we left - which is a good sign for a restaurant on a Monday morning before noon. I wish I lived here, I’d...
