If I could rate this place a 0 I would. Rude people working here, bread is mediocre and prices are expensive for not so good bread. I just went for the first and definitely the LAST time here today . I was driving by the area and saw the bakery sign so I thought I would check it out. A lady was at the counter just now (I don't know her name but she is rude!!!) . She is a middle aged maybe in her 40s to 50s mexican woman with missing tooth in side left front . Anyhow she is rude. I said good morning do you have any specials and she said" we dont have specials here" . She said "is this the first time you come here?" And I said yes . I asked her if the bread was fresh today she said "we sell what they give us". Anyhow I was looking at the bread and asked about the prices. She said "they have different prices ". But NEVER told me how much the prices were and even though I asked she never told me. Anyhow I told her to add to my bag " 6 conchas (2 pink 2 white and 2 chocolate). 2 pumpkin empanadas , 1 marranito, and 4 polvorones (she said $1 worth for the 4 small cookies so I took 6 polvorones). She told me the total was $10. I told her how much was the bread. "Hay todos tienen diferentes precios" in a short tempered way. I told her "usted anda de mal humor". She said "no it's busy here". So I told her I didnt know the prices cause she never told me the prices and it's the 1st time and definitely the last time I come. She then replies and says "alguien la mando aqui". Saying someone sent me there. I told her nobody sent me there and it was the first time and definitely the last time I was coming . She took the bread from my hand and started counting it in the back and then said "I'm gng to give you your time ". I dont know what she meant by that but whatever. She then gave the bread back to me. Never did she answer my question about the prices. She added 2 empanadas that I didnt even ask for. I told her I dont want extra bread I just wanted to know the prices maam. She said here you go. And that was it. She didnt even say thanks or I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. Anyhow Dont go here. So rude. And bread isn't good. the conchas taste like old bread and the only thing semi good was the polvorones and empanadas but it could use some more sugar they taste like oil. Everything else wasnt good. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. not...
Read morewasn't going to give a review. But, since I didn't receive a call back from the manager about a employee who was rude and impatient I decided to. I decided to try La Popular on Friday the 12 of October. Walked into flies smacking me in the face. Why did I continue in? Well the glass cases were closed. And if I saw a fly in the case I would move on to another. Well I felt rushed the girl who was helping us started rumbling the bag in her hand for me to hurry up. Mind you there was only one other customer after me. I told her she could help her out because I wasn't ready. The nice employee came from the back and said it's ok I'm going to help her. My other guest came to pick out sweet bread. This rude employee decided to roll her eyes. And when my son-in-law asked a question she said they are the same but different. How is it the same but different? When asked about a cake she stated it was a carrot cake which my niece loved so she said she wanted one. After 13.00$ of sweet bread we decided to leave. The rude employee decided to throw everything we ordered in bags instead of a box. So when we got home to display on table the long johns were at the bottom all smashed the donuts we ordered were with chocolate due to her throwing everything in one bag. Our donut twists we ordered were crushed. I called to make a report the girl who answered was the one who helped me. I asked her why she didn't put it in a box? She said they would charge me. Like really who cares. I didn't pay 13$ to come and display trash on my table for my guest. I asked if she could give the manager the message. I left my name and phone #. She stated she would. So I waited for the call and never received one. If I was able to post pics I would show you my sweet bread I bought. My guest and I will not be returning to this place! I will also be letting...
Read moreI like to stop by here when we're in the area to pick up some pastries. I don't really like how they charge you if you want a box, otherwise everything is put into paper bags. Nothing is labeled, and there are no prices anywhere, so you have to ask what something costs. When the time comes to pay, they don't use a register or calculator or anything, they just throw out a number which I can understand how that might be frustrating and/or unprofessional for some people. However, the few times I've been there, I did the math in my head after we left, and it all added up fine. I really like the carrot cake and those almond shortbread cookies. The chocolate cake looks delicious but honestly it didn't really even taste much like chocolate. Same with the brownies.
The ladies weren't too friendly or welcoming, but they weren't exactly rude. I got the impression that they just might be shy and reserved. There's no reason to take it personal, unless they are obviously being disrespectful and rude, which I have not witnessed. Just don't confuse reticence with rudeness. I will be going back when I'm in the area. I want to try...
