I have been going to Nadler's for a while to get cakes. I was very disappointed in the service/cake I received this time. I ordered a cake for a birthday party I was hosting on Easter. The cake was not decorated the way I had requested. I had a family member pick up the cake and when I saw it I called and talked to Becca (she's the one who took my order) and she checked my order form and realized it was made wrong. The decorator saw the cake was for a Male and decided to do the cake all blue, she didn't even read the notes on the ordered. I asked to speak to the gm but was told she was busy with another customer and couldn't come to the phone. I decided to go back being that the cakes are not cheap and was not happy with what I got. When I got to the shop I spoke to Manuel the GM. I told him what happened and he said he would take care of it. He took the cake and came back to tell me the decorator was already gone and they would do what they can to fix it. I would have appreciated being compensated for my inconvenience of having to go back and wait for 2 hours just so he could tell me that all he could do was give me 10% off and 4 cupcakes. I was not happy with that, he then asked what would you suggest I do. I suggest he give it to me for 30% off and fix the cake. Come to find out he wasnt even the GM. I was also upset that the owners didn't even bother to come see what was going on. I wish I could have talked to them about what happened. I dont mind them calling me to discuss this situation. I'm hosting another party for the cinco de mayo and I'm very hesitant about ordering another cake from them. I'll be looking forward to a response other than "sorry we didn't meet your expectations"
I dont know how to post a picture so you could see what I got and what I wanted. When I figure it out pics...
Read moreI came in two weeks ago to order a custom cake, but Pamela was extremely rude. She also seemed to be upset that another staff member was consulting a family for a custom order & that family was sitting at Pamela's desk. It seemed that Pamela was trying to pull some sort of power trip over her staff member - it was uncomfortable. Pamela sat with me at another spot & I handed her a sketch of the cake with specific decorations with instructions. I even put my name, phone number, and the time I wanted to pick it so it would be easier for the bakery. It was a sheet cake for 40, so it wasn't too complex, but right away, she started saying no to everything my family wanted. She said they don't do white cakes only yellow batter, can't do the decorations the way we wanted, couldn't do whipped cream (even though the website says they can) and made a remark that the color we chose for the frosting was "going to stain everyone's teeth". I told her to go ahead & put the order in & I'd double check with my family if the changes Pamela insisted on were ok. She said no to that, too. So I walked out. She tried to stop me, but I was fed up. My family has been going to Nadler's for about 30 years, and this one bad experience will prevent us from returning. It was like she was eager to tell me they couldn't make the cake we wanted. It really upset my family because they had their heart set on Nadler's, but I ended up ordering from Central Market & had a fantastic experience. They did so well, we had lots of compliments on the cake (and the dye DID NOT stain our teeth). Anytime someone asks about a bakery suggestion, I will be sure to mention to avoid coming here....
Read moreThe food alone was fairly lovely, as was hoped, but I have to say my consumer enthusiasm stops there.
The notion of grandmotherly gals cheerfully fixing your meal is a nice fictional expectation. No one is actually rude, but definitely not demonstratively happy to have my business.
Pastry descriptions and pricing are a guessing game, while not overly expensive (you find out how much when paying at the register) - still financially comparable to grander eateries that give friendlier and more professional service. Half my pastry was dubiously fresh. I think. Not awful, just not crisp and flaky as I was expecting.
I was embarrassed for my guest that was similarly as mystified by the lack of clarity and unmasked ‘we don’t care’ attitude.
I had hoped my previous visits that met with sadly similar unfriendly reception were merely ‘a bad day’, but apparently not.
I once made the mistake of eating there in the corner cafe designation. Table service, it was found out, takes last priority. Getting a menu, receiving condiments or drink refills elicits begrudging results. Our waitress took her break to have lunch next to our table and no one would come to our table once the food was delivered. She became angry when disturbed and asked to help. I’d have gladly gotten the refills and condiments myself if they weren’t off-limits behind the counter. Plus we had wanted to order some food to take home with us. The fact that we wanted to do so brought no altered display of welcome or enthusiasm.
Hmm. Service. That’s pretty much what the definition of ‘service industry’ is. I have no desire to spin that...
