Basil Thai Bistro — Restaurant in San Diego

I don't know why this place has such a high star review. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with shrimp,vegetables and calamari, plus the fried spring rolls. The D.N. was a bit mushy and about 15 percent of it was just large chunks of Cabbage sauteed in,which is a cheap filler restaurants use,the calamari was like rubber and not even chewable or edible, Calamari is a hard thing to cook and easy to mess up, so it was kinda expected,, the shrimp in it was good. The spring rolls were good. Sauces were good. Overall it was just average or a little below, maybe the people in the area don't have taste buds and know good food or the rating is rigged by the business because that was definitely a 3.5 star meal. If I tried it again I would order something simple to cook. The service was fast and friendly so I will try them again but don't expect...

They prominently advertise their vegetarian and vegan offerings...yet a phone call placed to management reveals there is fish stock and chicken broth in EVERYTHING, even those things marked vegan! What the...?!

I'm sorry, please remind me what kind of plants chickens and fish grow on?

This is unacceptable, and their "oh well" attitude about it, once confronted, is unconscionable.

They are dosing unwitting vegetarians and vegans with the very ingedients they are dining there to avoid. That's just laziness at best, and outright sinister at worst.

VEGANS AND VEGETARIANS, BOYCOTT THIS PLACE!!!

I thought the food was tasty. I h had spicy pork and noodles. And a soup Tom something, can't Remember the exact name. I wasnt familiar with the spices they used, but it was good. We were 5 in our party and no one was particularly demanding, but the server had an attitude. My friends and I are older ladies and sometimes I think there may be something of a discrimination against older people. Probably because they may think we're not good tippers.
