Drying Shed is a true gem in San Jose for steak lovers! No frills, no fuss—just excellent steaks cooked perfectly every time. I’ve dined here a few times and always leave satisfied, knowing I’ve had great cuts prepared the way classic American steakhouses are known for. The atmosphere is comfortable, the cooking is consistently on point, and it’s always a place I look forward to whenever I’m craving a proper steakhouse experience. On my last visit, I ordered the Prime Roast Beef (medium doneness) with a baked potato, and it was outstanding—juicy, flavorful, and exactly what I wanted. The staff makes you feel welcome, adding to the charm of this long-standing spot. Portions are generous, so you truly get your money’s worth—and because the steaks are high quality and huge, you might even go home with half your plate! If you’re looking for an old-school steakhouse that delivers on quality and tradition, Drying Shed is the place to go.

This was a nice little stop in for a nice steak dinner. We went on a Friday evening and didn't see too many people there, and for me the ambiance was lacking a little bit. The food though was very good and we enjoyed our time! The portion sizes were quite large so you definitely get your money's worth and the wine that we got was very tasty. It's also worth mentioning that the bread they provide is baked onsite and its very delicious. Great steak in a casual, old-timey setting.

7/13/24 added menu. Nothing to rave about. Inflexible on prime rib Tuesday. Customer does not come first. Prime rib is basic. Forgot to take pictures. Too hungry. One waitress. One bus person. Not very busy. Fries not crispy. Dinner rolls basic.

I had my graduation party in their resturant on July 11th 2015. Before the day of my event I, including my father, mother, and sister, sat down with Edward (the owner) to go over the details as well as to pay. He gave us the the prices for the room and said that we would need to give a $200 deposit which we would get back after the event, provided no damage was done to the establishment and/or its property... and of course this is normal. Our total came to $1650. He also told us that we would be able to see the complete set up (decorations) the Thursday before my event which was on a Saturday. We agreed to everything and paid in full that same day. Of course I was very excited and thought the small space was perfect for my small event. The Thursday before my event I went to the resturant and found that the space had not even begun the decorating process and that it wouldn't be done until Saturday...it surprised me because we needed time to set up musical equipment and to make sure our systems were compatible with theirs. I had to agree to the change. On Saturday the space was decorated accordingly but an hour into our event we will unable get the WiFi to even work. The staff had issues helping us connect. Eventually everything worked and the night went smoother. The real problem happened after my event. In early August, I called the resturant and spoke to a lady(I think Edward's wife or relative) and asked about our deposit and I was told that she would have to talk to Edward and would get back with me. A week later nothing, so I called back and and this time spoke with Edward, he told me he would speak with the lady and give me a call later. Still nothing. So I continued calling and asking but kept getting the run around. Last Friday, August 28 , I spoke to Edward. He told me he would call his bank and get a check together and call me at 9am monday of the next week. He said that he wouldn't be able to give me a check because the bank had already closed. I've worked at banks for a long time and I know a business does not need to contact the bank to issue/write a check. Anyways, Monday August 31st arrived and still no call from him, so on Tuesday I called him back and he said it would take the bank between 2-3 days to get the check. What?!? So I told him that I would need it by Thursday August 3rd if that was the case. Still no word from him on Thursday. I called on Friday and he finally tells me what supposedly "happened". He told me that my $200 deposit went to the waitstaff. There was only one staff member working during my party, however, we were never told that our deposit would go to the waitstaff. We were told that we would get our deposit back if there were no damages. There were/are no damages that we are aware of. If this were TRUE, how come Edward kept insisting that I would be getting my check soon? Shouldn't he have told me from the start that my deposit was given to the waitstaff? However, he acted like he was trying to get things together so that I could be reimbursed. For a month and a half after my event ,Edward never planned on returning the $200 deposit that we had agreed on. If you claim to run an honest business , you cannot treat people like this! I Called over the course of four weeks more than seven times to get this issue resolved. This is absolutely the most unprofessional, dishonest way of handeling an issue by an establishment that I have had the displeasure of doing business with. I cannot believe that a business owner could have the audacity to, essentially, steal from his customer. Anyone wanting do business with them please be careful and proceed with caution. But honestly even with everything positive added I stilll wouldn't advice anyone to go to them. Their are better establishments that and profesional and trustworth that will make sure all of your needs are met for your event. Good luck to you all!

Side note: I did not use their food for my event because I didn't see good...

Went here for Valentine's Day. The website said reservations recommended. I called a week and half prior and made dinner reservations for 2 at 730pm for Valentine's. I was looking forward to eating here as my priest comes here and promotes it and ESSJ Times promotes this spot as well. I did happen to come to a funeral reception and thought the food was decent. So we get there and are told it will be 30 minutes. It's what they said to everyone, regardless of a reservation. Reservations don't exist. So we wait. We finally get seated and the atmosphere could use some overhaul. It's outdated and falling apart... So our waitress comes she's not friendly and lacks customer service. Asked what I wanted, I got the prime rib medium well... She asked rice or fries, I got fries but seriously with $59 prime rib dinner it's rice or fries? Ok. My boyfriend got the ribs and chicken with fries. Our house salads came out right away... Wasnt impressed, my boyfriend's sliced tomato had the stem post still attached and it was just lettuce... We finish the salad and the wait for food which was just as long it seemed as getting to sit at a table. Our food comes out and just another disappointment. The piece of prime rib I was given was the end piece, full of fat. My fries were swimming in the liquid from my prime rib. I would have picked something else if I would have known, or actually not come at all and saved our money and cooked ourselves. My boyfriend's food was even more disappointing. They just slapped some kind of "bbq" sauce on the ribs and chicken. There was no flavor. The chicken breast was dried out but had a lot of "greasy" looking liquid at the bottom of it. His ribs were very fatty needless to say he didn't even eat his food at all and we boxed it up and just paid the food. I picked this place, so I didn't hear the end of it. No wonder this place is going down hill. The service is terrible the food is even worse and the price isn't worth it. The worst experience in a long time. I would never recommend this place...

Last here in 30 years. The food was very good back then and it appears to be very good still...

But here is the problem. My friend and I came to try out the karaoke for the first time. My friend has to use one of those manual scooters to stay off of one of his feet. As we entered the lounge to look for a table, the waiter ran over and yelled at us that we were not allowed to bring his scooter into the lounge and ORDERED us to leave it in the small area near the exit. My friend cannot put any weight on his foot and we explained that he couldn't walk. The waiter said he didn't care. Not his problem and to leave the scooter or get out!!.

We managed to find a small table for two at the back of the lounge and were able to maneuver the scooter so it was out of the way.

The waiter served everyone around us and didn't come to take an order from us for over an hour. I ordered a coke, (we had just eaten dinner before going there). My friend had spent his cash on dinner and didn't have his card, so said he just wanted a glass of water. The waiter made a scene and demanded we order something or leave. My friend asked for coffee, and the waiter said they didn't serve coffee!!! So my friend ordered a diet coke too. The waiter never brought it to us. About 30 minutes later, the KJ came over and said the waiter wanted us to leave because he needed the table for paying customers.. she apologized for his rudeness and asked us to sing one more song before leaving.

We did and then we left.

IF I come back it'll be for the karaoke. And, now that I know the "Rules" I'll buy a meal, despite the rudeness and total lack of compassion for my friend's...
