I can't tell you how many times I've walk by this place and wanted to stop in. The outside has a neat water fountain and old style wagon wheel seating area. The inside kind of looks like a Vietnamese diner on one side and a bit nicer on the other. Not really knowing anything about Thai food, I looked at the menu like a deer in the head lights. After about 10 minuets I spotted something that caught this deers eye. #123 Roast Duck Curry. The server asked if a wanted steamed rice with it or brown rice? I said I would like to try the chicken fried rice. (I know I know it's not Thai food, don't hate, appreciate) Have you ever had fried rice that makes your eyes roll so far up that you can see your brain because it was so good? Yah me neither.... that is until tonight. I mean this fried rice is legit!! What a pleasant surprise. it was so good that I could not stop until it was all gone. (I almost got the rice sweats) The roasted Duck, I ordered with mild heat.. well cuz I wasn't sure how hot it would be (next time I'll get medium) the duck dish was also very good and I just loved the curry sauce! Wifey got.... well I don't know what it was called, but it too was very good. Our server was very funny and super attentive to us even though he was running from table to table 5 stars for sure. Overall a solid 4 star place.

The little garden guarding the entry is tropical and cute. The waitress is nice. We came right at noon on Sunday. There were not many customers, but when we finished the meal, it was almost full house. We ordered 4 dishes. Except the pineapple fried rice is a bit oily, the rest are very good. The flavor of the special soup for the flat rice noodle is very strong, a bit sour and fruity. It's a taste we have never had it before. After eating some of it, we kind of like it! The curry with coconut milk for the grilled duck is very tasty. We finished the meat and brought back the leftover curry home and used it to cook chicken curry for the dinner. Very yummy. The best dish is krungthai tofu. The fried tofu soaked with the sauce from the minced crab and chicken, covered by big shrimps and bamboo shoots are perfect! We really enjoyed the meal there!

It has been a few years since we've been here ( was a stable on our selected list of great restaurants ). Today is Tuesday, at 6:45pm, they had 5-6 tables and very good take out business. The shrimp soup was delicious (5 shrimp), the beef and basil sauce ( spicy ) was average, meat too lean, cut into thin slices and over cooked, so it was chewy. The eggplants with fried tofu ( medium spicy ) was in almost identical sauce as the beef dish. Aside from 8-10 slivers of bellpepper, there was no different. Eggplants were good, but the tofu was not tasty, it tasted old/ stale. So soup 8, beef dish 6 and eggplant dish 6 on a scale of 1-10. 10 being the best, this the original Krungthai has always been B+ or A-. It's now B at best, time to look for another great Thai restaurant for me.

I’d say the main critiques I’ve seen in the reviews aren’t entirely true. The waiters were almost annoyingly attentive. Four different waiters made their rounds approaching us to see if we needed anything at several times throughout the meal. So I’m not sure why people say they are cold.

The pad Thai is $10.95, and the pad see ew was $11.95. So I’m not surprised that they look more like appetizers to people. I didn’t order these, but might try it next time.

We ordered the stuffed chicken wings ($10.95 I think) as an appetizer, and I ordered the duck curry as a main ($15.95), and my friend ordered the catfish curry. WOW! Everything we had was very very delicious. The stuffed chicken wings were definitely fresh and made to order. The curries were generous in size and meat portion; I might’ve gotten over ten decent chunks of duck, which I didn’t get at this one Thai restaurant on Ocean Ave in SF for the same price (I forget the name of the SF Thai restaurant, but it was also good, just not as good as Krung Thai). My friend’s catfish was very moist and delicious. I asked for spicy, and for me it was just the right amount, where I inhaled two times to calm the burn after a bite, but not much more and not spicy so that the taste was disturbed by all the noise/burn going on in my mouth.

An appetizer, two entrees, two rice bowls (yeah, they charge separately but I guess it’s just two bucks a bowl) all together cost us $51, not including tip.

I say, try it once. You won’t regret it, but MAYBE you’ll just prefer a different place. I think you’ll be...

Horrible service and mediocre food. I dined here alone during a business trip. I was seated fairly quickly and I got a glass of wine quickly too and it was downhill from there. No one came by to take my order for a while and I felt invisible. Finally when a waitress did show up I asked for food suggestions and she very rudely says we don't make suggestions around here you order your own food! Wow! Strike one! I waited and people watched about 30 mins since my phone died I had nothing else to do. I finally asked out of sheer frustration about the status of a simple stir fry order when I saw people come in way after me getting their food. First waiter says in response to my question about the food delays - "you have to wait. This is a restaurant not a fast food". Wow! Strike Two! Asked waitress and she says you're in the queue. What kind of queue has people who come later get served first? They don't understand how queues work I guess. Here's a single person ordering a simple stir fry. Smh. Food finally shows up and has no spice and zero flavor- so much for Thai food. Never going back here again. Eating much better Thai and definitely been treated much better too. Thanks but no thanks Krungthai!

I left zero tip and a note at the back of my receipt saying their service...
