Thanh Son Tofu — Restaurant in San Jose

I usually visit Thanh Son Tofu for their rice noodles (bánh ướt), pork ham (chả lụa), and various desserts. On my recent visit around 9 AM, I spent a total of $72 on food. However, when I got home and cut into the pork ham (the one with the red string), I immediately noticed the texture wasn't fresh and it was super sticky. Taking a bite confirmed my fears – it was incredibly sour. I ended up throwing the entire thing away.I called the store to inform them about the issue and to check their product. The lady on the phone suggested I bring it back for an exchange, but since I had already discarded it, she said there was nothing she could do. I made the call just to inform them, not expecting a refund or exchange, but the response was disappointing.This experience has left me quite disheartened. It seems like they might be reheating unsold items from the day before and reselling them in the morning. I’ll be avoiding this place, especially early in the day, and I'm losing hope in the quality...

Their tofu is top notch and best in the bay area. When you order a large, she will fill it to the rim. I usually do their colorful sticky rice and you get a container with a huge portion (no, they don't use a scale, they just pack a box).

If you get their soy milk, double check and I found one that was spoiled (you can tell by looking a the top or bottom for a thick layer of film or if it looks like it's curling). Some of their other food are interesting to say as they have these meat rolls out in the open table that's been sitting there probably all day and at luke warm room temperature people would buy them and eat without worrying about...

The lemongrass chili tofu. I was introduced by a Vietnamese friend, and I swear, they never have enough. I have driven to San Jose just for this, and wipe out all they have every time. Since COVID, they've upped their food safety game significantly, and you are now served rather than self-serve. Yet the prices haven't changed, and everyone is extremely pleasant. Only 2 customers are allowed in the store at a time, and everything is cash only. The fresh soy milk is also worth trying.
