HORNOFINO - Pan - Café - Vino — Restaurant in San Juan

I really want to like this place. I know the sandwiches are good, the coffee is nice and strong and the quesitos are delicious! The truth is, the price isn’t even an issue because everything is so expensive nowadays, that Hornofino was just one step ahead and now the prices compared to other panaderías and restaurants, are about equal anyway. My issue this time is that I didn’t even get a chance to order a quesito and a croqueta which is all I went in for. There was no one on line, I stood in front of the cashier who was busy counting change but neither her nor any of the other 3 or 4 employees who passed me by said a word nor acknowledged my presence. I waited for what seemed an eternity but could’ve been 5 minutes. I would’ve waited another 5 maybe even 10 (well maybe not, there was nobody else on line) if someone there would’ve said “please give us a few minutes” or “good morning, we’ll be right with you” or better yet, if one of those employees would’ve asked me what I wanted. They would’ve realized it was easy and fast and they could’ve opened the other register while the cashier kept on counting. Moments like these is what turns me off from coming here. I know that’s not everyone’s experience but it’s been mine for more than a couple of times and it’s not consistent nor pleasant. Review: This is one of those spots that I wanted to like but unfortunately, it did not deliver. The coffee was lacking flavor and boldness. The fries were super crisp, oily but on the bland side. Finally the pastrami sandwich was on the a bit too salty for my taste, the mustard over powered the flavor where the onions and cheese got lost in the sandwich. I do want to go back to try another of their coffee options as well as the pancakes.

Side note: customer service was horrible and my review only reflects my opinion of the food. That being said it took a long time to get our food, received it lukewarm and was confronted because of a confusion the kitchen staff had regarding giving me my whole order.

We typically don't leave reviews, but this one is long overdue. After a lifetime of supporting Hornofino, we regret to say that we will no longer be returning. The service and quality have consistently declined over time. The service has become incredibly slow, and our orders are frequently incorrect. Despite several mishaps, we continued to visit because of our fondness for the bakery's “mega quesitos”. However, our most recent experience was the final straw. We ordered two combos, and not only was our order incomplete, but the attendant was also rude and dismissive when we pointed out the issue. After a frustrating back-and-forth, they finally issued a refund for the portion of the order we didn't receive. Unfortunately, this experience has made it clear that Hornofino is no longer the bakery we once loved. We will not be sponsoring or returning to this...
