Pros: clean, affordable, fast Cons: cold food, bones in food, unorganized, cheap quality
I checked out their menu online saw decent prices and we decided to go. Upon arrival we noticed their prices were more then the menu on their site for their other location. Disappointing but understandable this is a different and new location. We waited in a very unorganized line, that began to go out of the door. Ordered and sat under a giant mural of Ronald Regan (still not entirely sure why perhaps a film or policy of his I have no idea). We got the food really really fast here's were the issues really began.
We were given chips randomly for free, which were cold (a theme of the evening) and very thick. I ordered a veggie burrito with everything. It was missing a few ingredients listed in the menu also had a random carrot in it. What was most off putting was one bite would be warm the next stone cold. The side of green sauce I ordered never arrived. My husband got California nacho fries. He bit into two bones while eating it and then gave up, also unmelted cheese on nachos was odd, his was also inconsistently heated. His food was too spicy for him, mine was as well but I enjoy spice, he told me he would have appreciated a warning on that one. The plates were cheap plastic which didn't match the decor of the place, and made it difficult to use the steak knife provided with the burrito, which I had to use as the borrito exploded immediately after I started eating it. The knife scraped the plates slightly, definitely didn't fit together.
Overall: won't be back mostly because of the cold food, and bones...
Read moreOk, so this review breaks my heart a little bit. I love Efren's. My boyfriend and I used to go to the one in Oceano a lot. It's one of our favorite places. So, when one opened in SLO, we were excited and went. The place has good seating and friendly staff. I think the girl behind the counter was a little over people's enthusiasm about the place opening up. But people can be told the same thing only so many times before they stop caring as much so I'll give her that. I got the California fries no beans and my guy got the mega nachos for take out. It all tasted really good, like usual. That night however we were so sick, violently throwing up and coughing (for me, it triggered my asthma and spent most of the night trying to regain control of my breathing). Nothing else we had that day was out of the ordinary and neither one of us were sick. I don't know what it was. At the other location, I'd never had anything like this happen. Honestly, I think it was just a really unlikely, unlucky time to go for us and I will be going again to make sure. After that, I'll update my review. But for now, this is the only experience I have with their food so I can only go...
Read moreYeah this place was so bad I wanna leave a review so they change for the better. I got the 4 street taco combo with rice and beans and I must say, it was the worst tacos I've ever had, don't know how to describe how disgusting it was but it was. Some how they made the meat and taco shells taste awful. Then their salsa bar was terrible and didn't have a any tasty ones. My girlfriend gets the enchilada plate and they said the red sauce comes on the side, when she gets her plate, there's no red sauce, she has to stand in line for the cooks to heat up some red sauce in the microwave, to hand it to her scolding hot as she grabs it and burns her hands. Then she tries to eat hers and doesn't finish it because its so gross and disgusting and she claims that was her worst ever enchiladas she's ever had in her life. And she felt sick all night and couldn't sleep. Weird, I know. We literally joked all night how bad that was and we eat Mexican everywhere. To top it off, their prices are way too high, for that price, we'll stick to Taco King! To their credit it was busy, so people eat it. But we won't be back....
