Red Oak Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Sanford

I understand this place has been around a long time and it's been established with it's regular customers etc. I don't blame the server for it being understaffed however, I don't know if he was the owner sitting at the bar scanning his laptop doing whatever he was doing while his customers were waiting for the server to catch up with the people who needed drinks and others waiting for orders to be taken, like my mother who hadn't ordered yet, and my dad and I were almost done eating the buffet. Again the server was doing the best she could with minimal help from this man who was sitting playing on his laptop. I asked him to help us and he replied the server had to get our check and replied with " we aren't just standing around" My reply was " you're right sir, you weren't standing around, you were sitting around not helping." Shaking my head!! Sir, if you are the owner, or management shame on you for not getting up and helping your server but also the customer. If you are the owner or management you should know how to collect money from you customers and help a single service make the most money she can and helping with all areas of service. I have done food and beverage for over 20 years and left there shaking my head. Maybe if the customer becomes a priority to this person the place would fill back up with customers again. That's all! Expect it to be a slow experience.!! Sir the one that was sitting in front of your laptop. I don't need your input, this is my review in my words and don't really care if you acknowledge what write, your attitude...

I went to grab a late lunch. There were several patrons at the bar and one table in the dining room. The bartender was covering the bar and dining room. Everyone, bartender and patrons were super friendly. The bartender took like five more tables and handled the bar patrons without missing a beat. The restaurant is large, a nice amount of space between tables and very clean.

I had the Weisenburger with fries and coleslaw. It is hard to impress me with coleslaw, it was good but I wouldn't come back for it. The fries were hot, fresh, golden on the outside and tender inside. The burger was excellent. First off the beef was a higher quality than I usually find. I would have ordered it less cooked if I had known. The bun was perfect. Burgers fall short when the meat and bus aren't higher quality. This burger had brie cheese which is commonly done with pear or apple but not here. The burger is slathered with this absolutely incredible bacon jam that made every bite a taste bud party. The combo was one of the best combos I've had on a burger and I would definitely return just for the burger.

Staff is phenomenal, food sucks. The reason I’m giving this a 2 star and not a 1 is because the staff is great and the onion rings are absolutely delicious. However, onion rings don’t make up for the fact the menu is boring, everything is either chicken breast (usually dry) and fried white fish, or burgers. I haven’t tried a burger yet, probably won’t go back, but the mashed potatoes were gross; tasted like insta-mash and had no seasoning. Like eating wet paper. The Buffalo sauce is runny and not at all spicy. Fries are mushy in the center. I like thinner, salty fries, but their standard fries are thick and mushy with a flavorless center. I rather go anywhere...
