This place did not meet the expectations they initially established with us.
My husband and I were introduced to Big Horn BBQ through catering for a memorial held for our friend about a year ago. The food was delicious. Since then, we ate at the Manvel location, which was similar to our catering experience. Hot food, well seasoned, great service... it checked all the boxes.
We were excited to have a Big Horn BBQ closer to us and anxiously waited as we watched this location build. We finally ate there today.
To say they were good is only because we have eaten worse BBQ at other places. This location does not meet the expectations Big Horn has established.
The brisket was thinly sliced, bland, and seemed as if it was a reheated frozen precooked brisket. There was absolutely no bark, and it was dry. The "smoke ring" was too uniform, and the gristle was oddly dry as well.
The chicken appeared to be nothing more than baked rotisserie chicken, which was also bland.
The Jalapeño sausage was mediocre. The grocery store offers better.
The potato salad was also mediocre. The loaded mashed potatoes were also very plain and bland.
What really got me was I ordered BBQ baked beans. They really weren't much different than a can of Bush's Baked Beans.
The Jalapeño bread was very good. It should be served warm instead of cold.
Service was very efficient and friendly. Also, it's a clean establishment, which we hope they maintain well through the years.
We understand they're a new location. However, it appears to us that they cut corners to open additional restaurants. I don't feel the quality is...
Read moreI guess I didn’t go at a good time. This was after the hurricane Beryl 7/10/24 at 8:45pm It was around closing time & I was told the good ran out, but after glancing I noticed there was something at the serving area. I asked if I could just please get what was available, I was hungry. The gentlemen at restaurant obliged to my request, but after walking out toward store & stopped and saw some meats: summer sausage & pork loin I was deciding of two & then this very rude guy at the counter heavy set with a scruffy beard blast; are you going to buy or not? I gotta close my register 9 and It’s 8:55p. Now with that being said there was another gentlemen in their deciding or picking his items as well, and was left to shop at ease. Not me I was rudely interrupted. I won’t go back, I’m sure they won’t miss my presence but I never in my life have been treated with such disrespect for merely picking the best option to go with my sides. The guy at counter has WAS ABSOLUTELY IN WRONG FOR BEING SO ABRASIVE TOWARD A PAYING CUSTOMER. I did make choice after that I was embarrassed and just wanted to get out of there. I felt like I wasn’t wanted or my business wasn’t quite what they wanted. Again it was after the storm I only went to buy food since mine was lost in the...
Read moreWe were really excited to try this place when it first opened. We waited eagerly for the grand opening and decided to go all out, ordering a lot of brisket and sausage to get the full barbecue experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment and a waste of money. The brisket was dry and lacked flavor, while the sausage was bland and underwhelming. For a place specializing in barbecue, I expected much more in terms of taste and quality. After that first experience, I suggested to my family that we not return. However, one night they wanted to give it another chance, so we decided to try something different from the menu. This time, we skipped the barbecue and ordered items like a burger and chicken fried steak. While the food was okay, it was nothing special, and the prices were far too high for what we got. We’ve had much better meals elsewhere for the same cost, if not less. The service was fine, and the staff was friendly, but the food just doesn’t justify the expense. As of now, I wouldn’t recommend this place. There are better options that offer more value...
