We have been to Messina several times in the past few years, and always are greeted pleasantly, and enjoy the charming hand-painted murals on the walls. It is the wonderful food and service bringing us back every time. There's quaint Italian music, or a mix of Jazz and Sinatra piped into the lounge. A small but nice wine offering is a plus.
Whether we have steak, pasta or seafood, we are always impressed. A favorite is their marsala. Salads are crisp, fresh pepper is applied tableside. Entrees are beautifully presented, and breads are wonderful, served warm with butter. My favorite is the desserts - I never leave without having tiramisu, and Messina's is wonderful... Even on Saturday nights, without a reservation in a snowstorm, or in July at the height of the dinner hour on a weekend this place shines - in every way. Food, Service, and Atmosphere.
There is an exceptional wine list which we occasionally enjoy, too. I love this place and have always hesitated putting out such a wonderful review, because I don't want to find the place so busy as to not be able to give me the great service that we have always enjoyed! (Did I mention the coffee? Also rich and wonderful.) Enjoy it. Messina...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI took myself and my two brothers out to dinner tonight, and I was thoroughly underwhelmed. I have heard great things about this restaurant for years now, and Iāve always wanted to try it.
The atmosphere was dated and sad.
The service was slow. They served us the bruschetta, bread, salads, and entrees all separately, with a significant waiting period in between.
The bruschetta was decent. The tomatoes were fresh, but nothing was salted. The Italian Wedding soup was good. The salad was a bowl of dressing with some lettuce in it. The entrees were obviously reheated. I ordered the chicken piccata. It was supposed to be āpan fried,ā but the breading was soggy. The chicken and my side of pasta were not salted. One of my brothers got the chicken parmesan. That was well seasoned and crisp, but the vegetables on the side were soggy, and again, not salted one bit. My other brotherās gnocchi was delightful, and the only redeeming quality of the entire evening.
To the restaurant personnel: please use salt if you want people to taste your food. Get the dining room updated, and for goodness sake, donāt keep me waiting long enough to write...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe services are good hard working and make the dining experience good. The owner undoes anything they do. He is disrespectful and rude at best. The food is ok at best, but again the owner tops off the poor experience. Several years ago we dined here on New Years eve, letting the owner know how much we enjoyed it. He proceeded to tell us if we enjoyed it so much then why didn't we eat here more often. This time we where here for my daughter's birthday, which the didn't even acknowledge. The food again was little on the blan side, while my wife and daughter were eating desert, I excused myself to use the restroom. While away the owner came by en told my wife and daughter they needed to finish up and leave because we they needed the table. When we left there was 4 open tables in the dining room. Also left the waitress a $40 tip on a $140 bill. Guess I felt bad for a waitress having to deal with a self absorbed and rude owner as he is. Honestly he is the reason we dont dine there more often. There is a wonder Italian restaurant in sheboygan and mequon. 2 times you are disrespectful l, you won't get a...
