On Friday, February 16th, around 2 pm, I embarked on a culinary adventure, braving the sketchy neighborhood for the third time. Despite the shady vibes, my hunger prevailed.
Customer service: 2/10 The cashier's demeanor could scare off any potential customers. Very unprofessional! I was sized up and down while trying to order. Her eagerness to charge you should be the same in her personality to serve customers. I paid the same amount on my last visit and received a lot more than I did on this visit. On the last visit, I order BBQ and Buffalo in which I was given a ranch instead of Buffalo, which isn’t ok when you’re paying $1.20 for it. This visit, it was the same exact thing; I order two BBQ sauce and received one BBQ and the other Buffalo. I would’ve kept the Buffalo and let it go, but this is the second time. That’s isn’t what I spent money on. I tried to make the cashier aware of the mistake, instead she tried to convince me that I had BBQ sauce. I told her, “I don’t know how BBQ taste like hot sauce” and which she replied with given me the BBQ sauce. The owner really needs to invest in receipts, bubbly cashier, parchment paper, itemized pos system or order pad; that way the mistake isn’t repeating. These things we’re taught in culinary arts school which is the basic. This is coming from a loving place as an owner and culinary chef. Much love 💕
Food: Fried Oyster mushrooms: 6/10 The oyster mushrooms looked like crispy golden nuggets of promise, but alas, they were swimming in more oil than a frying pan at a greasy spoon diner. Where was the parchment paper lifeguard when you needed one?
French fries: 4/10 These fries seemed like they had been through more reheats than a B-list actor's career. They were oilier than a politician's handshake and about as appetizing as a rubber tire in a salad.
Lima beans: 8/10 A shining beacon of enjoyment amidst the culinary chaos. These lima beans were a delightful oasis in the desert of disappointment.
Collard greens: 6/10 Tasted like they were straight out of a can, with enough seasoning to make even a salt shaker blush. The addition of a few mushrooms was like sprinkling fairy dust on a garden gnome—nice try, but the magic fell short.
Cornbread: 4/10 This cornbread was as bland as a beige wallpaper sample, with just a whisper of cornmeal to remind you that it wasn't a forgotten coaster from the 80s. Vegan cornbread can be a culinary masterpiece, but this was more like a culinary misdemeanor.
Rice: 5/10 Tasted like it had taken a shortcut through the microwave. Pre-boiled rice might be convenient, but it lacks the soul of rice cooked with love and care.
I spent $41.90 and didn’t get a smile or receipt. I only know the total from my bank notification. This restaurant have the potential,...
Read moreI can honestly say as a vegan of 5+ years that this is THE best vegan soul food I have EVER had in my entire life so far. After driving from Brunswick to Savannah with my mom for an impromptu weekend out with family I couldn’t find any vegan friendly food trucks so I went to Google maps to find trusted reviews of good vegan restaurants nearby. The food was not good, it’s GREAT!!! I called before driving over just to ensure that the restaurant was open and I was met with a kind and welcoming voice informing me that they were indeed open for business. Upon entering the restaurant I was happily surprised to find a very clean serving area, seating area, and was welcoming with the warm smile and positive energy from the owner. The food was all fresh and seasoned to perfection! The prices are incredibly reasonable especially considering the generous portions offered. I am still eating from the plate two days later! The sweet tea gives southern hospitality in every sip. My soul smiles every time I take a bite!! Even if you aren’t vegan I highly recommend visiting this restaurant and supporting. My non vegan mother tasted some of each item I order and mentioned how delicious it was. Finally I have to praise the tastiness of the vegan ranch!!! As a midwesterner I have always loved ranch and it was one of the most coveted sauces I yearned for after becoming a vegan. This ranch brought me home. It is without a doubt the best vegan ranch I’ve ever had. Please bottle it and sell it 😂. I will absolutely be coming back and will recommend everyone I know to go to the...
Read moreMy 1st trip to Savannah—my friend picked me up the airport and headed straight to “Hungry Vegan”. After my flight from NY that’s exactly what I was—HUNGRY!! As soon as we parked we looked at each other and said “The food is gonna be good!” We got inside and received a warm welcome and positive vibes from the owner Ms. Denise . She was very gracious and answered all of our questions. Our food came out in timely fashion and the portions were more than generous. I ordered the Big Vegan Soul with Fried Cauliflower which included Mac n Cheez, Red rice , Collard greens, Lima beans & black eyed peas and a piece of Herbed Cornbread. My friend had the Fried enoki mushroom burger and we had plenty of delicious food on our table. Everything was served hot and flavorful. Ms. Denise checked on us throughout our meal , refilled our cucumber water and offered us more cornbread. Everything about our dining experience was 10/10. If you’re in the area and in search of good food be sure to check this hidden gem out. This Hungry Vegan left with a happy full belly and I will return every time I visit Savannah again. Non vegan palettes will be pleasantly pleased as well. The food is good, the place is clean and the service was top notch. Go hungry cause they’re gonna...
