There's a weird feel to this place. After reading online reviews about them I decided to take my Hubby on his work lunch break (1 hr) we walked in and it felt so much like an asian restaurant, that we thought we were in the wrong place. No social distancing with table seating was exercised as we were told by the cashier to sit wherever we would like while she checked out diners. We like booths and saw 3 that were open but the 2 that were socially distanced properly from others were dirty so we plopped down in the clean one which was between two others that were already occupied. Those diners gave us the stink eye but we didn't want to sit at a table. There were only 2 servers. One on one side of the restaurant and one on the other. There was a 12noon lunch rush so it was super busy. Our asian server immediately asked us, "what to drink?" Without any type of warm greeting. "2 waters and 2 lemonades, please." I said, as we grabbed menus. "Okay!" She replied as she briskly walked off to another table. They have daily/weekly specials presented on table tents tucked in the far corner of the tables near the condiments. My Hubby and I looked them over, then went back to browsing their regular menu. She returned with our beverages shortly after and was ready to take our order; However my Husband stepped away to the restroom so I asked if she could return in a few moments. He returned & we sat for 10 mins. "Did she ever come back?" he asked. "Yes, while you went to the bathroom, so I asked her to come back in a few moments." I replied. "Well, she needs to come back now. We're gonna run out of time!" He exclaimed as he looked around for her. At this point, from the time we entered, sat down, got drinks and his bathroom break we had already been there 20 minutes. His work location was only 7 mins away so that wasn't the issue. He was worried about cooking/dining time. As we wait we watch her zoom by our table with others food/drinks 3 times. Finally, after 7 more minutes we wave her over to signal that we're ready since she took the order of the table next to us. "Okay, what you having, baby?" She says to my Husband. He chooses the philly steak & cheese sandwich with fries and I chose the fried chicken salad to save time. The kitchen is wide open, behind the cashier and there's a counter in front of it so diners sit/eat there also. We watched our food being prepared. There was only one cook who did wear a mask & gloves and one prep girl who did also. They have two grills and the cook was efficient/quick. We watched our food come up quickly but the servers don't use trays so our server kept flying around like a bat out of hell walking back & forth to the kitchen to carry only a few things at a time for the table of 4 in front of us instead of using a tray to bring it all at once. Our food sat for 5 mins. before being brought to us. We had been there for 40 mins. Not such a big deal if we had more time. Hubby & I were servers in the past, we couldn't help but think how more efficient she could be if she used trays. We received our food. He enjoyed his a ton. He said that he'd like to go back there to get the philly sandwich to go sometime in the future but never wants to dine in again. My chicken strips were deep fried to perfection but the salad they were put on top of was old/changing colors. The lettuce was pink and brown. Gross! We were running out of time & she didn't bring me silverware/dressing. I requested ranch upon ordering but in addition to not using trays, they didn't write orders down! My Hubby got up from his meal to ask for a fork/ranch. Moments later, as my Hubby is on his final bites/eating fast since we're pressed for time our server races over with a fork and ranch dressing. "Here you go baby!" She says. I ask for the bill immediately & told her we had to get back to work now so she checked us out at the table on a mobile C.C. Device, which was convenient. After payment was approved on the screen, it asked how our dining experience was. I skipped answering. I only ate the chicken strips. Never...
Read moreWhile I really like this style of restaurant, particularly breakfast diners, my experience has been that it gets harder and harder to find a breakfast place like this that has an adequate number of desirable features. There are not many features at this diner that set it apart, but here are a few: (1) hash browns are usually cooked properly - crispy, not soggy (2) mostly friendly wait staff, (3) some less expensive menu items for those of us trying to manage through this current economy. That said, and given exorbitant prices right now with obvious need for restaurants to make maximum effort in offering best value, here's a short list of ways in which this restaurant could IMPROVE: Allow custom breakfast orders (swapping pancakes for toast, hash browns for grits, etc.) without upcharge; the best breakfast places do Train cooks to make more excellent quality menu items, like light, fluffy scrambled eggs, thoroughly cooked grits, and crispy, unblackened bacon Upgrade personal spaces to more modern amenities, like replacing rotting furniture and the fixtures in your bathrooms
Just my thoughts. Otherwise, it's a...
Read moreWent to this place on a whim...The floors were FILTHY and the tables were dirty. I ordered the shrimp and grits which are advertised as a "Savannah favorite". They were absolutely not what you would think of when looking for southern shrimp and grits. The shrimp were those that you'd find in a chinese take-out restaurant (the small flavorless ones). It did not have a made-to-order look to it...more of a thrown together look. Based on the condition of the restaurant and the taste/presentation of my food I would not recommend this restaurant. One good thing I'll say is that the staff seemed pleasant. Also, my neighbors ordered the pancakes and they looked really good. But based on my personal experience I'm not...
