Had to wait for front desk clerk for over 5 minutes to start check in on may 7th 2024. Then the hallway outside the rooms on floor 3 has a weird smell like a sour ipa. Room seemed nice enough. Complaints would be that the ice bucket had a chunk cracked and missing out of lid and that the shower had some yellowing in some corners. Also non of the trash cans had their bags open in them ready to go, just laid of edge, and when booking 2 adults and 1 3 year old, no extra towel for the 3rd person. Had to ask cleaning lady next day. which isn't a big deal just more of an inconvenience for 140 to 150 a night in my opinion. Parking wasn't bad at check in, but when arriving back late (9:50pm) from a ghost tour nearby, the parking lots on both sides and front were full. Had to park against a curb like several others. So I told the attendant when coming in that his parking lot was full and that I had to park against a curb. He just says , " I understand, there's more over there". We'll it was dark, late, and there isnt any clear signs indicating where, " over there", is as I checked next day. Breakfast wasn't bad, could have been a little warmer on some things and the ( biscuits) were hard a little bit and not very warm. Needing a little more options. Breakfast is 6 or 6:30 to 9:30, and we went around 750ish on may 8th. The coffee and hot water in the lobby are nice to have acces too if the water isn't empty and i must say much better than whats provided in room. The pool being "HEATED" is a joke. We go to get in ( may 8th) around 730ish after we set our stuff on 1 of 2 whole tables in the small room down to be greeted to what feels like bathwater that had been sitting for over an hour afterward. Called the front desk to let them know that something may not be working. Little girl says " it's set at 72 and it doesn't get adjusted up or down as it's set at 72 and stays there year round". Then she mentions a maintenance guy will arrive in 30 min to an hour to check it. We wait about 20 min and I just go to talk to her while we wait and let her know yea it's cold, as standing in it we aren't getting used to it as we should, we are getting colder and that something must be wrong. She just says ok. I then ask, is there a maintenance man coming to check on it, she then says," I said it would be 30 minutes to an hour". I said ok just checking to make sure because it's definitely cold and that at this rate an out door pool to heat up with the 91 degree day we had would have been better. The maintenance man showed up and went to checking some stuff. He said it showed 80, but that he would bump it to 84. Then he felt it and said it was cold to the touch and he would have someone come out to check it in the coming days maybe. He was friendly and polite, nicest encounter we had at this establishment. We went on in since already wet and cold and got back in after he left. Even though he advised it would be atleast next morning before any noticeable difference. When getting in front of jets, they were putting out warm water, so idk as we never got far enough in before he arrived, to know if they were on before hand or not. Changing a setting from 80 to 84 shouldn't feel like a hot tub jet going inside a tub of cool water. There were towls provided in the barren pool room, but they were sized to be fitted to my 3 year old and my 5.3 165lb wife couldn't even wrap them around her waste. Hotel room was nice enough, microwave, mini fridge and nice little stool to sit down on, also shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Room is a king suite and plenty roomy enough. There's a toyota dealership next door and a shell in front of the building by main road. Wasn't the worst hotel I have ever stayed at by any means, but I feel I may search elsewhere for my next stay if back in the area. EDIT- pool was actually warm next morning. Something is tripping and / or shutting off and no one is checking it often enough to catch it and keep it working...
Read moreI visited the Holiday Inn Express on Thursday, February 13, 2020. I was very disappointed when I observed the condition of the room. For this to be a new hotel the cleanliness of the room was unacceptable. I had just left the Holiday Inn in the historic section of Savannah and it was very clean every day I entered the room. So imagine going to a place that gives you less than what you have received yet they're both labeled Holiday Inn, except the fact that one is older and one is newer. When I entered the room someone had removed one of the trays from the refrigerator. If anyone had thoroughly cleaned the room they should have recognized that the tray was on top of the microwave. When I looked in the refrigerator their were two beers left in the refrigerator and a cup that was filled with beer. I had to throw the beer in the hallway in the trash can. I looked at the bed and the comforter was so different from how they make the beds up in the Historic District. The custodial did not even tuck the comforter underneath the mattress. When I went in to take a shower their was hair all over the shower. I had to remove is myself. The toilet also had stains in it. I am not making anything up. This truly happened. I had a lot of stuff so I decided to go get some bleach and sanitize the room myself. After all, if that room looked that way I don't see how the others could have been anyway different. if you're clean you're clean. I was placed on the 3rd Floor of the hotel and trash stayed outside my door for a long time. Whoever was cleaning was taking their time and they were not providing superior results. The hotel is a nice hotel; however, it's not going to remain in that shape if the cleaning crew doesn't work hard to make the rooms look nice. Every time I come to Savannah I go to the Holiday Inn in the historic district. Those people provide the best quality services ever. It is always clean and it is a very friendly atmosphere there. I would take notes from them if I wanted to maintain a superior rating. Also I overheard the person at the desk talking so loud about another customer who wanted pillows. She was soooo loud. When people come to hotels it is a way from home and they want to feel comfortable. One way you can do this is to always be professional and provide great customer service by making sure your workers do their jobs in all areas of that hotel. It is a beautiful hotel. Work hard to...
Read moreThis is my third review of this property, as I stay here often. Savannah hotels are problematic, so if you're seriously using reviews to decide where to stay, best read this.
I also noticed my two previous reviews are missing. Interesting.
This property is your best bet for cleanliness, customer service, and proximity to downtown Savannah. Savannah hotels are overall horrible compared to the rest of the country. Customer service is poor, and the rooms are generally filthy. I stayed at 2 IHG properties downtown recently that produced horror stories to be told for ages.
THIS property is nearly brand new, and located very close to downtown. I cannot stress enough that if you are looking for the best mix of close to downtown, customer service and clean, this is the only property to meet these qualifiers in Savannah, period. This especially includes the nightmares downtown.
That being said, this being the best mix of clean and customer service is specifically for SAVANNAH hotels. This property is average at best compared to nationwide hotels, so best expect this.
To wit: All ground floor rooms are currently uninhabitable due to a mold issue, so say the employees of the hotel. Getting a totally clean room here has been a dice roll lately. Generally, the rooms are clean, but as you can see from other reviews, room cleaning is rushed by staff. The AC units in this property are already experiencing mold issues on all floors, indicating they are not being cleaned. Go to other properties in Savannah and expect nightmarishly dirty rooms.
The hotel on site pantry is stocked at about 40% capacity, so selections are poor. The mini mart across the street closes at 10PM, so don't forget they're NOT 24/7 or you're stuck with the pantry.
Customer service this last trip has marginally improved. Expect the basics, and realize customer service from staff at other Savannah properties is absolutely HORRIBLE. (Hotel mgmt, if you want to know how to excel here, call me. It's easy, and I'll tell you what your partner IHG properties do. If you comment on this review and don't call me, I'll call you and call you out on it. ,) )
The neighborhood is quiet at night. Some mention there are car dealerships around. True, but picture in your head not a busy industrial concrete jungle massive dealerships, but quiet country small car dealerships surrounded by forests, trees and grass. The area...
