I was there this week, for the youth hockey tournament. They put up a warming tent right next to the ice rink and had brought the bar down, there was adult and non-alcoholic beverages. Had tables and seating in the tent as well. We had a great time they had a large enough fire pit to keep the wife warm :) , The kids had a great experience. Who ever laid down the ice and kept up with the quality of of the ice surface did a really good job, not easy with out a Zamboni LOL.
Afterwords we went in and got food, what a great place to bring your family. They had the playoff games on the big screens which you could view from the entire restaurant., which was nice to not have TVs in the dining room but still be able to see them in the distance. Great atmosphere overall, was comfortable cozy. Our food was delicious the kids completely finished their plates nothing but compliments to the cook. The food was so good that we asked who the Cook was and then gave him a tip He did such a great job, thank you Nick for a delicious meal.
After the meal the wife took the kids home and I stayed to finish watching the playoff game. I sat at the bar for about an hour and a half, while I was sitting there I noticed the bartender and how hard she was working. I used to bartend back in college, so it’s always fun to watch how others work and how things have changed. As I was watching the game I would periodically glance over at the bartender, and the more I watched her the more I wanted to watch because it was extremely impressive how well she did her job. I am 40 years old now and have washed hundreds of bartenders over my years and I will say that she was one of the most impressive most efficient bartender I’ve ever seen. She was polite and did a great job responding and keeping up with orders. Most impressive thing was wooing her paying attention to peoples and the conversations that they were trying to have with her then at the same time she would be taking an order and pouring two drinks on top of getting the beverages for the dining room all at one time. It was so impressive that I mentioned it to the guy sitting next to me and he told me that she was everybody’s favorite and even whet on to say that she’s the only reason why a lot of these guys come here. I mean can you blame them who doesn’t want good service with a friendly attitude and a pretty face. So before leaving I knew I wanted to write a review about this place so I asked the bartender her name she replied with a friendly smile ( I’m Skylar thanks for supporting our local kids hockey tournament ) real genuine smile and Was a nice change from some of the other experiences we’ve had in the area with customer service and the lack of friendly attitudes. ( even though I’ve never met her before ) she said; thanks for coming! right as I was walking out the door and made me feel like part of the locals :-). Overall great experience plan to go back in the near future, I love to support good friendly local businesses. But a special thanks goes to Skylar for doing such a great job and making me feel right at home like this was my neighborhood bar, you don’t get...
Read moreI went to meister's after the fall cruise for the MN86 group. My first experience was absolutely fantastic meeting some of the people in the group. I ordered their 2lb burger since I hadn't eaten in 24 hours. I was so distracted by the challenge and the sheer size of the burger that I never got to remember the taste except the last couple bites. Which were dry, cold, and absolutely atrocious. Well upon finished I was told they were all out of shirts and they would contact me when they got them in. Fast forward 2 months later. I got a phone call at work saying my shirt is in. So I got off work and I went from Rodgers straight to Scandia. I sat down, had a beer, got my shirt and I ordered the mushroom and Swiss burger with a "California" set up.
On an unrelated note why is it standard to make a burger just meat, cheese, and buns? Why do the lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and pickles on a burger make a special burger or a separate item in itself on the menu? It's fantastic when a burger is given to me open with my veggies on one bun and I am given the option to not eat them and they're not melted into the cheese. I do eat them but the option being the standard is the small things that make up for other things that I will mention. Anyway I just really wanted to mention that cause Applebee's and Clive's Roadhouse do it and it is a little irritating thing that restaurants do.
Rant aside despite not being asked how I want my burger done, the default I received was medium rare. Perfect. It was absolutely piping hot, delicious, juicy and fantastic it was a great meal. I finished my beer, grabbed my shirt and went on my merry way.
The food was absolutely so delicious that I wanted to make the hour trip again with my girlfriend this time and no matter how Terrible the atmosphere is I absolutely love the food. The place is an absolute hole in the wall. My seat was broken, you're out of luck if you sit by the door in the winter. People keep opening the door and heating sucks. Warm clothing is required.
My one thing that irks me that I can't overlook is the Guinness Stout wall decor. I absolutely love Guinness, so why does that irk me? Well they have no Guinness. Not the last 3 times I was there at least.
It's not a high end restaurant and I don't expect it to be. There are minor things that could be asked while making my order to make me feel as though service supercedes the uhh broken booths and frigid indoor temperature. Just minor things. I have been there enough to know my options now but just for the sake of future customers.
I absolutely recommend the place. Especially in warmer weather when the door opening and closing gives more of a "the more the merrier" feeling than " shut the god damn...
Read moreI've given Meisters more than a few opportunities to redeem themselves yet it's obvious they don't care about even providing par service or food. Let's talk about the menu first off, unless you're ordering a simple burger with a side of french fries, expect that they've changed their menu. Any sandwiches or food items apparently change according to what they currently have on hand at that moment so you may or may not get what you ask for. They call it "seasonal menu changes", which according to them means cutting out or adding food substitutes to about 40% of their food items without any notification. My inlaws insisted eating there tonight and I had a wrap that had half of the ingredients replaced with the blandest and driest food items all mixed together. The burnt fries and simple food preparation makes me think the cook has no idea what they're doing.
Make sure to check your order before you leave with it too. More times than what's forgivable the staff neglected my order altogether or didn't give me the sides I've requested even though I paid for them. Yes, I can forgive once or twice forgetting, but we're talking more than four times here.
Waitresses. Good luck hailing one down. They're more interested making small-talk at the bar and hoping you'll go away then doing their job.
Meisters only imaginably stays in business because it's one of two burger and bar joints in Scandia that's convenient for locals and bikers. I'll drive the extra couple of miles out of the way next time to go somewhere where the food and service is...
