If you want plush chairs, matching utensils, small portions, and high prices, this is probably not the place for you. Gab & Eat is the restaurant rendition of a family reunion. You’re bound to see someone there you haven’t in some time. The food is savory and fresh like only a family member could make. The plates, mugs, and utensils are like grandmas - they all have a story to tell.

Meals are of Biblical proportions. There’s nothing fancy, but there’s nothing lacking either. Most everything is cooked within view on the grill in the front of the restaurant.

Most of the staff I recognize from my childhood (honestly.). They have have a tenured understanding of customer service. Likely, your waitress will sit down at your table and call you “hun” as she takes your order. It’s like an extension of home.

Being simplistic, your debit or credit card will not pay for a meal. Cash only. There is a private ATM on site. Expect to pay fees.

You’ll leave full (likely with a portion of your meal to go), pleased, and if you’re anything like me, counting your time until you...

We took the time to eat here on our way to the airport and met family here. A quick Google search and it seemed we'd found a great spot! The name was suitable as we intended to take time to truly visit and share a great meal; that's exactly we did!!! The menu was varied with something enticing for each of us, out waitress was lovely as well as knowledgeable. It felt like we had stopped by a family members home and the other patrons were welcoming too! Thankful for our server, Donna, as well as our amazing food! I enjoyed the steak, potatoes, and cinnamon toast 🤤 My partner had French toast (with real butter I might add?), and our family had omelets and pancakes. All of us loved our food !!!

Thank you for a great experience providing an amicable atmosphere to truly enjoy each other's company during these...

Great breakfast place! I go to Pittsburgh on occasion to visit family and this is a place I enjoy stopping at for breakfast, as my relatives in the area turned me on to it. The food is delicious. I enjoy the eggs annd breakfast meats, but they have sweeter things for those who have a sweet tooth. The service is top-notch. The atmosphere is typical of a breakfast diner.

During my last visit, the servers did a wonderful job working with a picky guest at the next table who brought in his own diet caffeine-free soda and sent his food back several times due to it not being perfect. They also tolerated his companion, who talked on and on and on about several recent vacations she went on recently and how her son is in a band in another state, among several...

Gab & Eat GOOD: Wonderful local, Carnegie business. A fun diner vibe with amazing breakfast, vibrant staff and fair prices BAD: Nothing much, they close early (230ish) and pot coffee is on the expense side (2.99) But they do grind their beans and I enjoyed a cup to go. Gab & Eat is right up my alley. I love diners, especially quirky places with top notch breakfast. Gab & Eat is all that and more. The staff clearly enjoys their jobs and the locals. If you sit at the counter you get to watch the skilled cooking action. As a Carnegie visitor, I went 2x - a tell right there. Day one was a great omelet, day 2 a superb bagel sandwich. My servers were great and friendly. If you're in the neighborhood, starting your day here is a wise move.

The food here is great but if you come during busy hours, it’s an unorganized mess. There’s no check in or list to go on. You have to “wait in a line” which is all by a honor system on who comes first and what not. For a place that gets as busy as they do, I won’t return unless it’s during an off hour or if they do what most normal restaurants do and take names. There’s a few morning places that do a first come first serve but there’s usually a dedicated line and a sign. There’s nothing at Gab & Eat. You either know or have to ask. Try their breakfast sandwiches, they’re amazing.

If patience is a virtue then short order cooking is an art and this place certainly knows just how to put on a great show. Very attentive and thorough staff. The cook is the Ring Master whilst the ladies run circles collecting the orders keeping the kitchen churning..... I love me a simple menu and this place has it. Food comes out hot and ready as it should.... Definitely'd walk a mile to grab a bite and watch the show...
