When we first walked into Chicago pizza the aroma was awesome, and we were approached immediately by staff that was very friendly and energetic, they even held onto our icecream and put into their frezzer so it wouldn't melt so that we could done inside. My boyfriend had been wanting to come here for about a month to try it and now that we were here the aroma smelled yummy. So we found ourselves a table. And one of the staff took our order. He was very friendly, unfortunatly tho when he brought out our pizza it was made incorrectly. We had asked for a pizza that we could split we wanted the whole thing to be made as pepperoni with extra cheese, and g.pepper, onion but on half he wanted to add saisage, bacon. We both were unsure if the waiter understood what we were asking for so I clarified our order to make sure he got it right, and I thought he had, but then chuck my boyfriend clarified our order with the waiter one more time and he repeated it back to us correctly so we were surprised when he brought us or pizza and half of it was just sausage, and bacon with cheese and the other half was pep, cheese and onion and g.pepper. and the kids pep pizza that my son had well it didnt really look all that appetizing it was susposed to have extra cheese on it. But 2 of his slices were pretty much just bread and sauce and the best slice that actually looked yummy we picked a long blonde hair off the top of it, which couldn't have belonged to myself or chuck or my son,e and Chuck have dark colored hair my son has a sand blonde with a small hint of red in his hair and it's short.. mine is short as well as chucks. However even tho their were a few hiccups we both agreed we would definitely give the place another go maybe they were understaffed and short a person, they did seem pretty busy. Then we got the bill. Our total was like 43 something, which we both thought was kinda crazy. But we paid our bill and left a decent tip got our icecream and left. I was impressed the staff seemed pretty busy but yet they did a very good job interacting with cutomers. As a former cook&waitress i was fairly impressed, they gave the whole establishment a very nice family feel about it. The breadsticks they give out I wasn't a fan of it looked like the breadsticks were set in a basket and some just dumped some butter spread on the top so that underneath wasn't coated as well. And they could definitely use a little garlic and some salt. Maybe a little parsley to give it some color.. my boyfriend chuck felt that the pizza was soggy, it wasn't very firm, but It...
Read moreIf you're anywhere near Scottsburg and hungry, I HIGHLY recommend stopping in. We just happened to be in town for the 1st time and were looking for a place to eat. It's off the southeast corner of the main square, which is east of 65 and south of the main drag that cuts through town. Parking is simply street parking, of which there was an abundance when we dropped in. The building is a former doctor's office, to whom they pay tribute along the back wall of the restaurant.
Not sure if it's always a buffet set up when you dine in, but that is what we were told. It was $10/person, which we thought was an amazing deal considering the quality of food they are offering. The salad bar offers an awesome selection of mixed greens as opposed to iceberg lettuce along with an abundance of cheese, meat, veggie options, and dressings for adding to your salad. Admittedly I am not normally a salad guy (although I have had to become more so of one with age), but this was one of the best layouts I have personally seen, especially for a pizza joint.
The buffet version for the pizza was a different experience than we have had before. You get in line and request the slices you want from the kind lady working behind the counter. If the place is busy, it seems like this could take some time, but it was just the 2 of us on this early weekend lunch, so we didn't have a wait. I believe there were 5 pizza options available to choose from, including a legitimate deep-dish, along with some of the best garlic cheese bread we have had. Whether on the salad bar, their pizzas, or their cheese bread, they do not skimp on the cheese.
We aren't typically buffet consumers, but for the quality of food they are serving that would change if they were anywhere close to us. Friendly service, fantastic variety and tasting food, and a great value at the price they're charging. If we ever find ourselves near Scottsburg again for any reason, I think it's safe to say we will try...
Read moreI’ve been a fan of Chicago City Pizza since their early days in New Albany. When they relocated to Green Tree Mall, I fell off as a regular, but now that my family and I have moved to Scottsburg, we’ve been excited to finally give this new location a try.
We made it in on a Saturday—no easy feat with a toddler and another baby on the way—and it was absolutely worth the wait. The place gives off that classic hole-in-the-wall charm, filled with Chicago and train-themed décor that gives it a lot of character.
They didn’t have sweet tea, wings, or a good chunk of what’s listed on the menu—but honestly, we didn’t mind. Less temptation, fewer carbs!
We ordered the deep dish with pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. It took about 45 minutes to come out (as expected for deep dish), but it was worth every second. Easily the best pizza in the area—hands down. Reminds me of Giordano’s in Vegas, which is saying something.
What really stood out, though, was the service. The owner, who was running the front, was incredibly welcoming. She chatted with us and our son, gave him crayons to color with, and made the wait feel personal and enjoyable. I even mentioned the reviews about the phone lines not working on busy days and tested it myself while we were there. It’s true—you can’t hear the phone ring inside. But at the end of the day, it’s their business, and they have the right to run it in a way that works for them. I respect that.
If you’re looking for great deep dish and small-town hospitality with big-city flavor, this is the spot. We’ll be...
