Previously this company served amazing food, with the new management the standards have drastically gone down hill. The food use to be flavorful, and the staff inviting.
With the new management they hired a server who doesn't understand customer service. The new management adknowledges their cooks are using rancid cooking oil with no appoligies. They would rather talk about the intimacy of their business, they had a cook having a freak out, how the previous owners were involved in fraud and cut off their electricity while expecting the customer to pay for food poisoning.
Apparently they also have a new policy of setting the bill down before the customer has had a chance to lift a fork or and salt or pepper to the food, the reason given was the multi million dollar company Red Robin does it so that is how they are going to.
GO TO ARRNIES IN WARRENTON you'll get amazing food with great staff
Context. In early September I went to Grandma's for my Birthday brunch, I ordered am Omelette, when my plate arrives with enough oil to fill all the extra space on the plate, I took a bite of my hash browns instantly I identify the oil itself was RANCID! I told them and asked for a remake.
My remake comes back with an omelette that was crispy brown inside and out and barely had and ingredients, sill make in rancid oil, I sent it back with same complaints of rancid oil. I was told I would still have to pay for my birthday breakfast because they did a remake, I paid..
Thursday October 2 I gave them a second chance. I sat at a clean table with dirty seats and floors. The same waitress without customer service skills walked up dropped a menu on my table and said I guess I'll get you a glass of water, to which I responded and a cup of coffee too please. She came back and said what do you want with such a I hate my job attitude. I ordered 2 medium eggs sausage patties hash browns and sour dough toast. I had to repeat it 4 times. I drank my coffee and sat and played with my phone and people do. I watched my server drop of 3 different tables food, but no bill was dropped.
My food arrived in a timely manner, and looked and smelt delicious, however my bill was set on the table before my food was, (this is a sign the restaurant wants you to leave) I responded since you dropped my bill here's my card and maybe have a to go box. My server refused and told me I could sit there and eat my food or leave I asked for a Togo box again So I could enjoy my breakfast. Response what why don't you just leave.
I got up and said fine, on my way out their chef mouthed to me what happened, I explained the whole situation about rude service and rancid oil from across the dinning room, because at this point I wasn't returning.
I pulled out of my parking spot and was about to get of the Highway when their manager came running up to my car and blocked me leaving. I rolled down the window, she asked me what had happened I explained the rancid oil she adknowledges they were using rancid oil. And when I mentioned my bill hit my table before my food her response was haven't you ever eaten at Red Robins they drop your bill with your food. I explained I'm a Chef and I would never ask my staff to drop a bill until they have offerer everything the restaurant has to offer. Confused I asked if she was muliti million dollar company that makes things from a package or that greasy spoon whose claim is everything is fresh from scratch; So no I do eat there I prefer made from scratch food. I reminded her ARNIES IN WARRENTON is her actual competition and they drop the bill towards the end of the meal after they asked of everyone was satisfied. Then I was giving enough information about change of ownership to go to a bank and pick up their loan. I asked the manager to please back away from my car about 5 time so I go go and get quality food.
The down side of being a CHEF is expecting restaurant management understands food quantity, and local customer retention

Read moreI was visiting Seaside for a weekend getaway this weekend and found this gem of a family-owned restaurant. It's pretty cute and cheesy and cozy on the inside, but it all works. There's not much seating, which, in my opinion makes it better. The wait time was worth it (15 mins?). Betty was super super nice and just gives you the grandma/ awesome aunt vibe -she's genuine and kind! I had the corned beef hash, and upon Betty's recommendation, I opted for the country gravy on biscuits as a side... I'd say what I said upon tasting the gravy, but it would be offensive here. IT WAS LIFE CHANGING! I'm not being dramatic, nor is it insane to call it a masterpiece, perfection, or whatever else you may think of as superlatives. Remember that scene in Ratatouille when Ego tastes Remy's Ratatouille for the first time and his mind went to a fond childhood memory? This is that gravy in real life!! My hash was amazing too. The corned beef is clearly home-made as well. My other half ordered a ham and cheese stuffed omellette.. That was divine! Why? The ham was juicy and not salty - the flavors were enough, but did not overwhelm the eggs. As a parting gift, I asked for a container of the gravy and got all but 2 of the crinkle cookies.. My gawd... I'm diabetic, but holy Crack balls batman... best damn cookies out of a breakfast restaurant I've ever had?! Moist and chewy and full of flavor. Even my diabetes said "Thank you for that!".
Come check this place out when you're in Seaside. Or just drive to Seaside for this gem of a place. You'll sit there...
Read moreGood local breakfast spot. Portions are generous, the food is scratch-made. Their pancakes are the size of dinner plates, so be hungry!
I had the corned beef hash, two eggs and two biscuits with sausage gravy, and took home half of my plate. Also had a hankering for a waffle, so ordered one with strawberries and whipped cream. Again, took home half of it.
The biscuits are dense, not light and fluffy and the sausage gravy is not the Southern sausage/pepper style but is spiced differently; I'm guessing thyme and parsley among other spices. The gravy had sausage in it, but wasn't sausage flavored so it didn't hit that sweet spot that I was looking for.
The waffle was also more dense rather than light and airy. Both the biscuits and waffle were tasty, the textures were just denser but that didn't affect the yum factor much. I would order them both again, but now I know to expect the style to be uniquely Grandma's.
The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. Prices are a bit spendy, but the portions are large, so that evens things out.
Give them a try. They are always parked up; Grandma's is a...
