We had a reservation for Easter. The location was beautiful for pictures with the running dam behind us. I loved the memories I made. It’s been years I have been wanting to visit, and we finally made it out as we had a reservation at a nearby camping site. We ordered our food. I didn’t take pictures of the Powerhouse burger, but I got the other ones including our appetizers and, including a parasite inside our catfish. My daughter ordered the catfish. She bit it, and it was gooey and runny. Then, she saw something she was shocked with and pulled, and when she did, it was long. We literally left it inside a small plate in the middle, hope our table cleaner saw it. We didn’t complain at all or made them aware on our end. It was the most disgusting experience ever. I fought so hard to not throw up as God is my witness. I sat still and made every attempt not to throw up and make a scene near my guests who were trying to entertain themselves. The worst thing is she had already eaten one of the catfish. She has stated they weren’t very good, but she still ate it, but the second one was the bad one, spoiled catfish they forced into the frying pan if you ask me! They were probably both bad; I can assume. One was inside the belly already. Disgusting presentation and audacity of the chef to fry bad fish! My brisket was hard and flavorless. I can tell it was old and frozen and reused, just disgusting. Still, I ate it because I was hungry. My vegetables were very good, no complains there. Both, the grilled veggies and green beans were good. I did notice some uncooked pieces of bacon, but that’s everywhere. People don’t actually fry the bacon long enough to make it crispy to use in green beans like I do at home. It’s not expected to be perfect as I’m used to the shortcuts people take. The taste of the veggies was pretty good, can’t complain. I tried my daughters sweet fries on her catfish plate, and they were pretty good. My son’s fries on his hamburger plate were good and fresh as they were warm. They were nicely seasoned. My son didn’t like the onion rings and said they tasted bad. I didn’t try them, so I have no idea what his chief complain was, but they traded them for fries, so the fries were fine. The mushrooms were nice and big in the fried mushroom appetizer, but I guess the only complaint I had was they needed salt. The batter needed flavor or at least salt. They were completely devoid of salt. I had to add salt to the gravy because the gravy had no salt either. I don’t like bland tasting food as I use a lot of seasoning and used to that. The egg rolls were very good just not big enough for the price in my opinion but delicious. The views outside were nice and felt tranquil. I am so glad we finally made it out, and although I can’t praise the flavorless batter or the fact they served my daughter expired catfish, we enjoyed the setting. I do wish them well. I think once was enough for me. Who knows when I may make it out again. My stomach and my daughters were left sickly. I couldn’t get the image out of my mind and kept thinking of how disgusting the parasite worm looked like when she pulled it. I couldn’t recover. I have a very sensitive stomach. I’m just glad that we took the pictures before sitting down to eat and still had a good impression of the place during our photo shoot with the nice background because at least we were in a good mood. I’m sorry I can’t give more than a two. The two is for the location. I can’t even do a three because the food is not close to what I expected. Oh, and I can’t forget, they served people before us that came in after us. The food did take quite a long time as well. I’m not sure if they forgot or skipped us by an oversight. I rate the food a 1 or a zero if zero existed. The food can’t be rated. It is a fail. The setting, however, is a five alone. I just can’t rate the restaurant a five, which is the focus of our rating, so the two is for the setting and the restaurant together which is what a full rating should be. We still gave them a 15% tip like...
Read moreThis place is beautiful, but, I had the worst luck and experience here. We made the long drive to this place after seeing it had been given good reviews on The Day Tripper. A 35min wait for 4 people, with empty tables visible all over. The host's excuse was that they were short staffed, but 4 servers were actively working the floor. The interior was absolutely uncomfortably hot, but very beautiful and laid out well (seen in pics). When we were seated at a table and waited on, the waiter was very friendly. We went totally unheard, many times, as he passed by to other tables. Drinks went unfilled for long periods of time. We later noticed that many of the wait staff here were wearing ear buds, so that could be the reason we went unheard. After the food arrived, it got worse. One of the Chicken Fried Steaks were very noticeably overcooked, and my daughter had pulled 4 gathered strands of long, black hair from her Mac & Cheese bowl. Again, after not being heard for the 3rd attempt to get the wait staff's attention, I got up and walked both plates over to the kitchen entrance where the wait staff was gathered and cutting up, and showed them that this was not satisfactory whatsoever and asked if we could have it fixed again. They apologized and said they'd handle it. 10min later, the waiter came to the table to inform us that we'd not have pay for those two plates, and they'd cook up another chicken fried steak and grab another bowl of Mac & Cheese. After 20min, I ended up splitting my own Chicken Fried Steak plate with my wife. By this point my daughter had lost her appetite for the Mac & Cheese. They brought out the new steak and we asked for our check and a to-go box. 1 appetizer, 4 drinks, and two dinner plates (after the other two were removed from the list) ended up running still us $64. I never leave a note on my payment receipt, but I did this this time, that they desperately need to improve. Added, we were on the way back home, and could not figure out what the bad smell was that was becoming more and more noticeable. We pulled over to figure out what it was, only to see that it was the to-go Chicken Fried Steak that was filling the car with a bad smell. It was tossed immediately into the trash at the convenience store. This was confusing, considering that the batter on the steak was quite tasty and smelled good at the restaurant. Why this one wasn't, is beyond me. How much worse could it have been for us by this point??? Not sure...but this place, was bay far, our worst experience we'd ever had...ever. Sad, considering how beautiful and neat this location is. Smh,...
Read moreWe recommend a visit from Jon Taffer... So, we went to this establishment with average expectations due to reviews. We was greeted by the hostess like normal and was taken to a table. We asked, politely I might add, to be moved to a table by a window, as this was the first time we have been here. The hostess got an attitude about moving us, and reluctantly placed us at the table in the front by a window. We sat and waited for about 8-10 minutes for someone to come to our table. Mind you, there was 3 tables with patrons, occupied between 2-4 per top. We shouldn't of have had to wait, but the servers were walking around very frustrated, like they were not in all happy to be there. Maybe because it was July 4th and they didn't want to help anyone, but I digress. We got up from our table and walked to the bar with hope's of being welcomed and with better service, a fail there as well. The temperature outside has a heat index of 105 degrees, we were thirsty. So, 2 or 3 minutes has passed, the bartender did not even respond to us until we said," hello". The bartender then said, "I will be with you in a moment", we said okay. He then walked away while gathering up things like trash, dishes, etc. on the bar top. A patron already at the bar asked for a drink, so he stopped what he was doing, and started making him a drink. We said that's it we are out of here. We got up and said, loud enough for the bartender to hear us, "sure would of been nice to had gotten a drink". The bartender at this time decided it was a good idea to call us out, (loud enough for the entire restaurant to hear), that he said, "just a moment"(with a very angry tone), and then shrugged us off like we mattered not. (I was under the impression that customers meant something to make money?) So, we said, aloud, (to match his tone and loudness) that we had already waited for at least ten minutes and then came to the bar with the same results. We were embarrassed by his remarks that he said in front of the other people in the restaurant. We felt harassed and publicly humiliated! So, we left quickly, and will not return. My over all experience, eat and/or drink at this establishment at your own risk. This bar and grill is equivalent to, and I quote, "a quick slide down a razor-blade into a pool of lemon juice". We "do not" recommend this...
