Our family has been coming to the Tally Ho for many years. We are always made to feel like family, and the food is consistently superb. We often remark between ourselves about how warm and genuine the service is. We had an experience recently which caused me to write this review.
Our generational family home is in a very rural location, and our oldest sibling lives there alone. A couple in the same village area consistently looks out for her, and helps with everything from physical tasks to medical referrals. We wanted to thank them for being such good friends and neighbors, and decided to “treat them” to a night out at the “Ho.” One of us, who lives way up in Northern Virginia, handled all the details. Working with a Tally Ho staff member, who has become a friend, he was able to explain our plan, arrange for the special dinner, and pay AFTER the event, all on the basis of trust. We know of no other public business that still operates on trust in the customer’s word. It was gratifying to have this couple enjoy themselves, but it was amazing and encouraging to deal with the Tally Ho as a partner.
So yes, the food is excellent, the environment charming - but what should attract patrons above those features, is the heart, spirit and character of the folks who own and run the restaurant. Do come for the food, but stay and RETURN for the experience - an experience of trust and compassion you won’t find...
Read moreHad a chance to visit Tally-Ho due to business in the city of Selma, Alabama. What good fortune it was! Everything about this quaint restaurant was amazing. From the moment we entered we knew this was going to be a memorable evening. We were greeted by very friendly staff and escorted to our table for six. We were asked our drink choices and immediately brought a variety selection of bread with more than ample whipped butter. Yum! The sourdough bread was my favorite but others found their 'zuchini' muffins to be their favorite. (They were delicious!)
My son and I opted for their ribeye steak. I had the cheese grits with mine. Both the steaks and our sides were excellent! My daughter-in-law chose the shrimp and grits and, after allowing each of us a taste, it was unlike any similar dish I had ever tasted. It was simply delicious!
The young folks chose fish and Alfredo. It didn't matter what each got it was great!
We will be going back again several times while in town. We all highly recommend it to you and your family. You will...
Read moreMy family and I dined here on February 12, 2022. Upon entering the establishment, we were rudely greeted by the hostess. In a unpleasant manner she asked us "how many?" I replied and said "two". She then ask, "well do you have a reservation?" I said no. She replies, "it's gonna be a minute"...then just walks away. When she returns i ask, "what does that mean exactly? How long is your wait?" She replies, "I have too many people with reservations coming in tonight so I can't seat you. Just go to the lounge if you want to eat." This was my first time in this establishment and did not know where the lounge was located. After wandering through the restaurant, I happened to stumble upon the lounge. A bartender greeted us and took our drink order. I ordered an unsweetened tea. She looked at me and says, "gross. I don't know how you drink that." The only positive thing about this dining experience was the food. It was very delicious however I will not be returning. I expected a more professional dining experience at the price point...
