During our relaxing vacation in Gatlinburg, TN, we wanted to sample some local favorites instead of the usual chain restaurants. We found a delightful spot for lunch, Hometown Hero’s Subs, which offers a small but appealing menu of sandwiches. The guy (maybe owner?) that took our order was so friendly, he gave us great recommendations for other local favorites. The customer service was top tier!
My partner chose the infamous Italian sandwich after hearing it was a must-try. He initially considered the Reuben but was swayed by the rave reviews of the Italian. It turned out to be the best Italian sandwich he’d ever had. He also enjoyed a side of white cheddar mac & cheese.
I opted for the BBQ chicken wrap with a side of red pepper & Gouda soup. Both were delicious—we didn’t leave a crumb! The portion sizes were generous, exceeding our expectations. We were really impressed by this place.

Read moreIf you haven’t been to Hometown Hero’s Subs yet, you’re seriously missing out. This sandwich was an absolute knockout. The bread was perfectly toasted with just the right crunch, holding together layer after layer of meats, cheese, and fresh veggies. Every bite hit with flavor — smoky, savory, and balanced with just enough tang from the condiments.
The sides don’t slack either — the potato salad was creamy and rich without being heavy, and the dill pickle spear was the perfect crisp finisher. Portion sizes? Generous. You’ll leave satisfied, but not weighed down.
The vibe at Hometown Hero’s Subs matches the food: welcoming, no-nonsense, and made with care. This isn’t just a quick bite spot; it’s a place you’ll want to keep coming back to.
Bottom line: if you’re in the area and craving a sub that actually delivers on flavor, skip the chain places and head to Hometown Hero’s. Your taste buds...
Read moreI never leave reviews, but I feel like I should this time. I got food poisoning from here, no big deal things happen. I never said anything to anyone that works there, bc it's fine. I would've been back. A member of my family knows the owners, and mentioned it to their son. The owner came over to my work place and interrogated me about it. Saying "there's no way it was his food they make it fresh" and that "food poisoning takes 24 hours" that "it had to have been something I ate the day before" then proceeded to go on and on about how he used to be over all these other restaurants. If the shoe was on the other foot, I would've offered an apology at the very least. I never said a word to them, I feel his reaction was very confrontational and unwarranted. I would've came back, the food is that good. But his attitude will keep me from ever eating...
