Copeland's Cafe — Restaurant in Seymour

Our experience here was not good. We have eaten here several times in the past and have had good food and service each time. This time, however, that was not the case. We got there at 7:00. We initially were greeted within a few minutes of sitting down and got our drinks. My parents and daughter were driving in to meet us so we waited on them to arrive before ordering. They arrived at 7:15. After their arrival, our waitress did not return to the table for 15 minutes to take their drink order. When she finally did, we ordered our food immediately as well. About 10 minutes later, they got their drinks. After that, it was an hour before we got any refills on our drinks. We actually had to ask another waitress just to get the refills. We had ordered side salads with our meals and had still not received them at 8:45. My husband had to ask if we could at least get our salads out. Finally, at 9:05pm our food was brought to us. All of our meals were overcooked. My mom and I ordered ribeyes medium rare...mine was well done and chewy. My husband’s burger was charred and well over-cooked, and my dad’s hamburger steak was overdone as well. We were all very disappointed as this had not been our experience here in the past. This unfortunately has made it to where we more than likely won’t be back. I would also like to add that we are very lenient people when it comes to restaurant service, but we didn’t even get good service from the wait staff. If they had come around on a regular basis just to check on us and keep our drinks filled at least, it might not have been so bad. But we didn’t even get that. The table next to us even joked with us as they were leaving if we were even going to get our food as they came in after us and had to wait at least an hour to get their food as well. Avoid this restaurant. We went there for dinner. I got hamburger steak with gravy and onions and it came with mashed potatoes and green beans. The green beans were good (hard to mess up veggies). The hamburger steak was pretty good, too. The mashed potatoes were not good - at all. I'm Irish, so I love potatoes. I didn't even finish them. My wife got catfish (which is supposedly one of their best dishes) along with fries and okra. The okra was way too salty. The fries were OK. The catfish was "alright - I've had better." Our waitress was fine. However, the cook came out of the kitchen for some reason and said to us that we looked like "two teenagers" because we were both on our phones (the wait here is awful). His comment and interruption were not welcome. One of the waitresses brings her two kids to work, too. The son (about age ten) roamed around the restaurant, including hanging all over the salad bar. I guess they saw us looking at him after a while, so they told the kids to go outside. He left his piles of toys on the table across from us. The real kicker was the owner standing right by the register when we paid. She never asked how our dinner was. Never said thank you. Never said have a good night. Nothing. To top it all off, before we even walked in, we were met with a sign on the door that reads "15% increase on all prices effective immediately." This place is not for a quick meal. They even mention that up front with signs on the table. Despite that the wait for the food is not long but not quick either. So if you're really hungry I would suggest going somewhere else. If you can wait a bit definitely stop by here! The food is delicious and plates are big. I got chicken fried steak and I loved it! I also tasted my parents meals, they got the catfish and it was probably one of the best catfish I've had. Other than the food the service is good. Everyone is pretty friendly and it definitely has a small town charm to it. If you're on a road trip and happen to be near here, I highly recommend going here as long as your willing to wait a little for some...
