Having lived in Texas for many years I have a hard time finding good BBQ. I feel that I am being generous with the stars because the owner was so friendly and helped us so much. We got the 4 meats and two sides. Brisket was chopped and dry... I’m used to nice smoked slices of brisket..(especially paying $21 for the plate) the carnitas or pulled pork was very dry... the jalapeño and cheddar sausage was good once we put bbq sauce on it..(delicious)... the ribs were a nice portion however they fell short because of how over done they were.. half was inedible because of the toughness and the other half was tender.. what we could eat was good with some seasoning and bbq sauce added. The sides we got were Mac and cheese and that was great!!.. the corn casserole was also delicious!! (First time having it) we tried the cold sides but I personally don’t like miracle whip and it tastes like that... other wise they were flavorful. Overall we will try it again but we will definitely not get a few things again, the owner makes you feel welcomed and also makes you want to come back to say hello. I recommend this place if you want something other...
Read moreTraveled out to Shelby Q today. Met Mike the owner, who was super engaging. We discussed all the different food options that are available. He had pulled brisket, pork, and chicken at the time. Ribs weren't available at the time, they were on the smoker. He has a large amount of sides. Pork and beans, green beans, corn casserole, mashed potatoes, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw and potato chips. Ordered the 3 meat sampler. Brisket, pulled pork and chicken. All meats tasted okay but were a little dry. As for the sides. I had the baked beans, they had a little pork in them but not super flavorful. The potato salad was a mustard based salad which was quite flavorful. The mac n cheese was mixed with some barbeque sauce which gave it a different taste, not bad at all. I also ordered the corn casserole which also had barbeque sauce in it. Probably the best side to me. Mike as a number of sauces too go with his meats. He has sweet, smokey, pineapple and spicey. Mike has had the business for 2 years, he also does catering. If you have a chance, stop in and...
Read moreStopped into The Shelby Q today for a bite, I was greeted warmly by the Owner, Mike, and that's when it hit me... The smell! That wonderful aroma of smoked and barbecued meats, mixed with a little sweet and smokiness of baked beans.. my moth immediately started to water. I ordered a pulled pork platter with corn casserole and coleslaw, I got the mild sauce, and a drink and it was less than $8. The pork was tender with a good smoke to it, and with the sauce on the side I was able to taste just the meat before it was masked in any way by the sauce. The sauce was sweet and tangy with a warmth but not heat. The Cole slaw was crisp with a bit of a bite that offset and complemented the richness of the sauce very well, and the corn casserole was sweet and rich with some crunch from the corn kernels cooked right into it. Over all a very well made bbq dinner and a very fair price. The store was comfortable and clean, and again, the owner was polite, friendly, and inviting. Definitely a new "go to" for bbq...
