Shanghai Lily — Restaurant in Shawnee Hills

Dishes I ordered were okay, but I wouldn't go back to try something else b/c the server was so rude. It was a weird time of day to eat lunch, around 2:00 p.m. on a Friday and it wasn't busy at all. One is able to access the patio without actually going inside the restaurant but we obviously went inside to let them know we were there, ask to be seated, etc. just like one would do at any other restaurant. This server looked very put out by us coming in and actually asking to sit down and instead of taking us out and seating us or telling us to go ahead and sit down and bringing us menus, she just grudgingly handed me a menu as I was standing at the hostess stand so I had to decide on the spot what I wanted instead of sitting down and reviewing it like a normal person at a sit-down restaurant. That put me off right away and honestly we probably should have just walked out.

The patio is lovely though. Very peaceful and quiet - no music blaring at you like a lot of places. I ordered spring rolls, steamed dumplings and the Tom Yum Soup. All were fine, not bad but not amazing. Perhaps other dishes on the menu are better, but I had to decide so quickly I didn't have time to review most of the menu. I'm also totally willing to concede that perhaps the initial impression going in could have colored my opinion of the rest of the meal, so unfortunately that was my experience. First off the hostess/ waitress was one of the nicest, most patient people I ever met! My 3 yr old was tuckered out from Zoombezi Bay and arrived asleep. She grabbed him an extra chair to be comfy because he couldn’t stay awake! She was incredibly kind too when my 9 yr old talked her ear off. Now, the food...some of the best food we ever ate. My son swears by the crab Rangoon. Their general Tso sauce is literally the best we ever had. We even took shrimp lo mein home for the youngest and those noodles were also some of the best ever! We tried Shanghai Lily for the first time yesterday evening for a carryout order. We had Moo Goo Gai Pan, Szechuan Beef, Crispy Sesame Chicken, and General Tso's Chicken. The food was ready on time. Everything seemed to be fresh and prepared properly. Our meals were delicious but not quite as spicy/hot as we have experienced in the past at other Asian/Chinese restaurants. While we did not eat at the restaurant, it looked very nice with white table cloths and a nice atmosphere.
