It's been 8 months since I made my review and I want to update it to my most recent visit, compared to my visit at two other Dairy Queen's in Kansas .. I now am craving a cheeseburger and fries, or chicken strip dinner from This Dairy Queen! The food is hot, fresh, looks delicious, tastes delicious! There is another dairy queen, I've been there 5 times and knowing things happen, kept giving them a chance, but I've come to the conclusion, it's not a big deal to them if the food is good or quick. Hands down, this is the best Dairy Queen (Shawnee Mission Parkway and Midland Drive) to eat at in Kansas!! My favorite is the 6 piece chicken strip basket, so I can snack on it again later! The beef cheeseburger, prepared when I ordered it, with fries, filled me up and I was very satisfied! The ice cream desserts, have always made me smile! š
First off, I want to say I am not an employee of this franchise! I do know through my visits and nosey socializing that there is a brand new General Manager at this location that has served working every area of the restaurant for a long time 80 hour weeks sometimes to earn the position so he could have the opportunity to make sure your 100% satisfied with your food & overall service, including speed! It's important that your overall experience is a positive memory!
I've seen a lot of disappointed comments in the slow drive through service. One comment was someone saying the food was probably not prepared until after payment...that is accurate. Most quality fast food restaurants wait until the order is placed before preparing your meal to assure you have the best fresh hot food flavor! I do know your feedback and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated while they strive to tailor this location to the people in the area it serves! So instead of your comment here, jot down your concern on a post it or piece of paper, leave it on the counter or hand it to someone in the restaurant! Its your place, they are there to serve you!
Although not everyone is pleasable, I also learned they are working on finding a way to keep employees happy with their job so they keep coming to work! Fast food service turnover is unbelievable and constantly training new people always puts a door block on the services you get, anywhere! But if they can get a solid crew trained and that keep coming back happy to cook, make your frozen treats, it can only get better from there! Not any one or 2 people can get 20-30 cars through a drive through in a dash!
I was just there, wait time in drive through is improving, but it also has some room for more improvement too! Remember, give the New Managers a chance and share your ideas! My husband has been to this location once before and had subpar service and food. We thought we'd give it another shot. This time we came out as a family a little before 6pm on a Thursday. There were only 2 sets of people in front of us in line (we went inside). We should've known it was a red flag when the family in front of us had so much trouble getting their order in, that they ended up walking out.
We got to the register with someone who was clearly very new. We put in our order and paid, and then the wait began...It took 15 minutes for one of the kids meals to come out (1 hot dog, 1 small fry, prepackaged applesauce and milks), another 5-10 minutes for the second hot dog to be done, and about 30 minutes for my husband's meal (bacon cheeseburger and fries). The kid's meals didn't even come out at the same time (how hard is it to cook hot dogs for kids). One woman had ordered after us, and got her food before us. I had to go up to the counter multiple times checking on the status of our order. No one was in a rush to help, and no one was apologetic for the ridiculous wait.
By the time everyone got their food and ate, we had been there almost an hour. We could've gone to the store, bought the ingredients, and grilled at home in the same amount of time. This is a FAST food place? They were...

I realize itās fast food and maybe my expectations shouldnāt be too high but at the same time, I feel like itās not that hard to get orders correct and almost every time Iāve gone there has been something missing, Iāve had to wait 15+ minutes. There was one time I waited longer than 20 min- there was only one person taking orders and a line out the door and thatās not their fault- thatās staffing problems. I felt awful for the kid working the cash register because there was no one there to help. He also had to take orders to people so heād have to step away while the line just got longer all the while people were also coming up to complain about their orders being wrong. It was awful. That kid deserved a raise for handling it so well. I will continue to go there because the food is good- I just think the employees arenāt supported enough and they also donāt really care either if an order is messed up or not correct.
