Utica Coney Island — Restaurant in Shelby Charter Township

I asked what kind of fish their fish sandwich was I was told cod so I ordered it. Either these people have never had cod or there distributor is lying to them. This is clearly pollock. Quite disgusting. Also there was a hair sticking out of the fish sandwich. It took the staff several minutes to find tartar sauce. Normally I would say homemade tartar sauce is great but again I don't think they understand what tartar sauce is. It was huge chunks of pickle and some mayonnaise. Folks that is not tartar sauce. If you like respond to this and I will come in and I will make you the best tartar sauce you ever had in your life. ;) I will say the Coney dogs were awesome. Service was fantastic. Overall probably will not be back just due to the fish not being cod and the hair and the tartar sauce. Do better...

"Under new management" reads the sign. A small diner in a slightly rundown looking strip center. Got in half past 12 and only one other table was occupied. By 1 pm they were nearly full. Seemed mostly locals/regulars with conversations directed to the cook staff shouted across the restaurant. I would've liked a napkin & some flatware but I didn't notice until after my food arrived and the solo waitress was so busy with all the others then that she never checked in until I was done. Sandwich was fine, the fries thankfully without salt. Hot with that good crunch exterior & soft interior. Booths on two sides (L-shaped) with 4 low-top tables. Deer 🦌 hunting “widows” lunch, so I treated myself to $1.49 coney day🌭, seasoned fries🍟, & coffee☕️ w/creamers that are cold-so it cools it off to perfect drinking temperature right away. This place has been here forever-I used to take my 3 sons here as kids & they’re in their late ‘30s now! Sorry that I had to add relish, but IMHO these coneys are right up there w/those of any national chain’s. The (lightly) seasoned fries were nice & crispy & you add your own 🧂. I appreciated that because some places shake way too much on. I think you should be able to salt (or not, in my case, to your own...
