In all fairness, this was the only restaurant in Shelby I found open, welcoming, my and serving food on a Tuesday night in early October.
I am a lazy eater. I do not believe you should have to work at eating. It should be easy. There are exceptions, such as when eating blue crabs. My hands and arms have become fatigued after shelling 12 blue crabs. However, I digress. Eating the classic American burger should not fatigue my jaws. I generally realize I have made a mistake when I order a “gourmet” burger and am not asked how I want the burger cooked. This is usually occurs due to a few situations: 1) They are a fast food chain who cooks burgers exactly the same every time (for better or worse). This is preferable when the restaurant is run by 14 & 15 year olds. 2) The restaurant buys the ground beef in bulk and does not trust the contents so plays it safe and cooks everything well done which produces what I call “hockey puck” burgers: an over cooked, dense hunk of meat that lacks flavor, texture, moisture, and is hard to choke down. 3) The restaurant really has no clue what they are doing and just cooks burgers like they always have. They may use the finest content for the burgers such as ground chuck, sirloin, brisket, ribeye, or even prime rib. However, they ruin the meat by overcooking it.
Since they advertise their burgers are made from ground brisket, the third option is probably true of this restaurant. I could not discern what cut of beef they were using, but it was not overly ground like cheap ground beef, it still had some variation in its texture. They just need to learn how properly cook their burgers so you don’t have to choke them down.
The fries were ok. They lacked crispness (a bit soggy actually) and yet seemed slightly overcooked.
I am sure the owners and employees of this restaurant are fine people and I hope this...
Read moreI wish I had remember to take a photo of this amazing food but dang was it the perfect roadside diner for a quick burger. Especially if like me, you enjoy a very no nonsense burger with great flavor and not super greesy. Not to mention extremely friendly staff a very interesting set of items for their menu, like fried Mac and cheese bites! Didn't get to try them seeing as the burger was what I had been craving the last 45 miles but next time I think I will experience more of their varied menu!
If I had to give one critique its that the bun was NOT toasted and we didn't know we needed to ask for that. But minor issue. Only other was we , being we had just stopped on the reservation a couple hours earlier , were used to wearing our masks. So when we walked in and Noone was wearing one we deffinatly got a few strange looks. But everyone was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was fun kinda felt like stepping into a brick pizza oven haha! Will definatly go again...
Read moreStopped here on our way to Glacier National Park. Their pizza was definitely one of the best top 5 pizzas I ever had in my life. At first glance this place doesn't look like a family restaurant but more like a bar. But once you go inside there is actually 2 sections of the lounge. One for bar folks and the other for family dining. My family and I ordered a large sausage and veggie pizza and we will never forget how good it was. If you like ranch with your pizza then you will love this place too. Heads up the portions are a bit smaller than most typical pizza joints. The staff was friendly and very helpful with direction and attractions in Glacier...
