Piccolino's Restaurant — Restaurant in Shirley

First of all, good luck finding the entrance to the parking lot. I'm not going to tell you where it is, finding it is your punishment for not heeding this review.

Where to begin? The décor is terrible. Old 70's bar. Cheap banquet tables and chairs. It's basically a bar with some restaurant seating in back.

Food was barely passible. I had the chicken parmesan. The pasta was thrown on the plate and sauce only on one side. This made the side with the sauce hot and the side without cold. The chicken was overcooked and there was a huge glob of cheese on top. The garlic bread was overpowering and soggy. My kids had a cheese and tomato pizza and the dough was dry and the cheese greasy. My wife had a chicken quesadilla and Caesar salad. The salsa tasted terrible (I tried it too) and the dressing for the salad tasted odd also.

Finally, to top it off, for some reason they decided to put the walk in cooler attached to the dining room. Multiple times they went into it and caused a frigid blast of air to enter the seating area.

The server was nice but she seemed over worked. I think she was the only one there and was handling the front and rear of the restaurant. We were asked how everything was when we were 75% of the way through the meal and I had to hunt her down for the check.

I don't know what restaurant all the other reviews are from, but they certainly don't reflect my experience. This establishment might have passed muster when there was less competition in the area but based on my meal I highly doubt I will return. I really was hoping I'd like this place. It's a close by, neighborhood joint where I was hoping to get a decent bite to eat. Perhaps some of my experience could be attributed to an off night, but certainly not all of it.

We were seated promptly and ordered drinks. Companion wanted a mojito, but no mint was available, so she ordered a whiskey sour. I ordered one of their standard draft beers, but they were out. Ordered a different draft beer. The whiskey sour arrived with no foam on top (it was never shaken) and no orange slice or cherry - nothing). The waitress commented she would bring my beer in a minute as it had to de-foam. A solid 4-5 minutes later, my beer arrived looking (and tasting flat).

Ordered potato skins as an app. These skins were clearly pre-prepared and frozen. The texture was very odd. Flavor was non existent (I know it's a potato but wow). The texture of the cheese on top of them was.... unique

Main course included a medium rare Vermont burger and a blue cheese steak tip meal.

The burger arrived cooked well done, not medium rare. Any shades of pink were far past. The meat didn't appear to have been seasoned at all. The steak tips were fully covered with a smooth blue cheese dressing. If the waitress had come by to check on things before we were three quarters done, we would have said something. But we were the only table occupied, and the waitresses were behind a counter eating and on their phones.

It was an unfortunate visit. Perhaps if you're looking for a place just to sit at a bar and order bottled beer, this...

I’ve been here three times now and the food is amazing! The portion sizes are huge on top of that. I just had the lumberjack sandwich, the homemade coleslaw was perfect! Not to mention this place has a decent selection of beer on tap!

Edit: updating my review with the photo, so I do eat here and order delivery as well. I loved the clam chowder so I decided to get it as a side with my delivery and was VERY disappointed. It was incredibly watery and flavorless compared to the rest of the food. I have had this in the restaurant before and it had been creamy/delicious. I am not sure what happened this time, but I have to assume the soup got too hot and ruined the quality. It’s unfortunate that they decided this was acceptable to serve and I had to toss it. I am only taking one star off because this is the one mess up out of all the times I have had their food, and mistakes happen. I don’t think I’ll be ordering clam chowder from here any time...
