Brunches RVA — Restaurant in Short Pump

So I'm going to detail two different visits that make up this 2 star review.

First visit occurred on Nov. 1st of last year, so shortly after they opened. It being a Wednesday, there was not a lot of people there. It was just me and my boyfriend enjoying a nice brunch. We were seated promptly, but then we ran into the issue. Our waiter was a nice person, but ATROCIOUSLY slow. I'm talking about didn't see us for the first 10 minutes of our visit, then got us drinks, then disappear for like half an hour. When our food finally did arrive, they did not check on us to see if we need anything else, and then when we ask for the check at the end of the visit, it took them another 10 to 15 minutes. I went to the bathroom while waiting for the check, they were just texting on their phone. I was irritated, but I let it slide and went on with my day. It being one of their first weeks open, I wanted to give them a second chance before writing a review.

So brings us to today, the second visit on June 2nd 2024. Again went with my boyfriend for a Sunday morning brunch. Now today the place was packed to the brim. Totally expecting to wait, we go and check in, and surprisingly they see us. But this is where issues arise. We sat for easily 20 minutes having multiple waiters walk by us, no one came to us to introduce themselves and take our order. They just kept running right by us, going a different tables. Eventually some girl walked into the section we were in with two plastic water cops in this look in her face like "oh crap" for lack of better way to explain it. She asked if we want to order any other drinks, and we just pressed her that just order our food. When we gave her our order, it took easily 30 plus minutes for the food to come out. When it did come out, the food was lukewarm at best. We did not complain because we just wanted to eat and leave.

Overall, the food is decent, but the quality of the service and the time wasted is totally not worth...

We had a party of 3 and at first it was good. Food was decent and atmosphere was nice, it took a while to get our order in but it was understandable because it was busy. The problem happened at the end of the meal. One of my friends got double charged and her bank account displayed that Brunches charged her for my meal and hers. There was no problem on my end and my payment displayed correctly on my account. There was a whole situation with that, It took 20 minutes to figure it out on the staffs end. The waitress Cara B. said that she would void my friend’s meal and just “eat it.” her words verbatim. We said thank you and even walked past the staff to use the bathroom before leaving with no problem or indication that anything was wrong. Once we got home we got a call from the manager Mary Margret saying that we still had two tabs open to pay………Then when we told her that the waitress Cara said she would comp my friends meal, the manager proceeded to argue with us and say that Cara did not say that when there were 3 of my friends and I that witnessed her state that. The manager did not once come to our table to check on us and the situation or even to hear her waitress say anything to us. Unprofessional staff, not sure if Cara decided she didn’t want to “eat it.” after she said she would but we ended up having to give our credit card information over the phone to Mary Margret who was not really apologetic or kind for the mix up. My friend still got charged the wrong amount after we gave them our card info and the manager told us to wait until the charges clear because it reflected correctly on her end. Overall probably a technology issue but the staff was rude and lacked customer service skills. Very disappointed with how they talked to us and handled...

On the hunt for a new family brunch spot, we decided to try this place for the first time, and to say it exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. From the moment we stepped inside, we knew we had found something special. We were greeted with a genuine, welcoming smile by the host, and that warmth extended to every staff member we encountered. The atmosphere was buzzing with happy chatter, and the entire team was exceptionally friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home.

The real highlight, of course, was the food. It wasn't just good; it was spectacular. Our server was a true gem—not only polite and friendly but also incredibly helpful. He guided us through the menu with enthusiasm, offering recommendations that turned out to be absolute showstoppers. The menu was so tempting that a couple of us couldn't decide on just one dish and ended up ordering two!

Every plate that arrived at our table was a work of art. The portions were generous, the flavors were bold and fresh, and it was clear that every dish was prepared with care. For the quality and creativity of the food, the prices were surprisingly reasonable, offering fantastic value.

We left feeling completely satisfied and "super stuffed" in the best way possible, already planning our next visit.
