Well we must have either came on off day or this place has gone down hill as it did not match the reviews. The restaurant had a unique atmosphere when we first pulled up, but do any looking around and you'll be left feeling like this place has not been deep cleaned, ever.

Pros: Good boudin balls, fried kids meals were good with large portion, potato salad was very good.

Dislikes: Their chicken and sausage gumbo was hardly any roux and meat, mostly just rice served lukewarm. For the price small serving. The jambalaya was mostly just spice and no flavor also a small serving. The pepper jack mac & cheese was just penne pasta with melted shredded cheese on top, not worth seven dollars! They hold your food until it is all ready on the counter, with no heat source. We were a party of 8 so I collected the food before it was all ready (I watched them swat flies away from our food and I didn't want it to be cold) and was met with attitude because I was supposed to wait, which I did not know because no one explained the process to me. The kids burger is on a big puffy poboy bun, no kids would be able to eat that, plus it was massively overcooked. They did sub it out for something else no questions asked though. *Customer service: the guy who took our order was fine, but for the price I would expect at least SOME customer service. You place your order at the front and pay, then you get your food yourself. They don't get you refills, check on you, or help you carry food to the table (once again, 8 people). They only brought the sub of the kids meal to our table. Overall for the price, cleanliness, and customer service we'll never comeback it's getting harder to find good cajun food up here...

I have been to Marilynn’s place multiple times and every time I have had a good experience. Seems that they are going downhill. Today I walked in and the first thing I saw was a dog laying on a table while it’s owners ate. This is disgusting and extremely unsanitary. I told the cashier that a dog on a table where their customers eat is unsanitary and they shouldn’t allow it. The response was “I brought it up”, so obviously nothing was done. I’m all for dogs in a restaurant (outside) as long as they stay in the floor. Being on the table is probably a health violation. Putting that aside, my wife ordered the shrimp and grits and they came out in about 30 seconds, so they are obviously not making them fresh. Her shrimp were very over cooked and the grits were way too saturated in the sauce. They probably keep it all in a pot instead of putting it together. My son was hungry so I ordered two scrambled eggs and extra crispy bacon. They “cooked” this order in about 15 seconds, which means once again that they didn’t cook anything. The eggs were those fake powder eggs (like army eggs) and the bacon was full of fat and super saggy. Bottom line is that the entire experience, from beginning to end was terrible and I will not be going back to this place. If anyone wants good shrimp and grits go to Another Broken Egg. I will not be going back to Marilynn’s place and I don’t recommend anyone else goes until they get back to their old...

Wanted some authentic Louisiana style food so where did we find ourselves? At Marilynn’s Place! A beautiful home my girl Marilynn has built for her loving fans and customers.

I ordered a fried shrimp poboy 8’ that was INCREDIBLE to say the least… but I won’t say the least. I’ll say the most. The remoulade sauce was amazing and really gave the sandwich the kick that satisFRIED my cravings. And the pickles on the sandwich were chefs kiss. The sandwich was HUGE and I didn’t know if I could finish it because the portion was great but the crispiness of the shrimp and the balance of sauce was so beautifully delivered that I found myself taking many more bites than I probably should’ve.

The only bothersome thing was a lot of flies around the establishment. We were inside and because of the flash floods that were happening outside the garage door was closed but the flies were swarming. Didn’t stop me from chowing down tbh.

But lastly, if you could visit Marilynn’s Place and order only one item it BETTER BE THE beignets. I’ve literally never had a better beignet in my life (this was the second one I tasted so standards are high). One bite of a Marilynn’s Place beignet and it changed my life. I saw my future shining so brightly after one bite into this amazing Louisiana delicacy. Boy was it bright! Also I started talking in a southern accent because Y’ALL this beignet CHANGED ME!

Also the staff was wonderful. Check...

It was hard finding info online about their brunch, so we took a gamble and were really satisfied for taking this detour on our road trip. They recently started carrying Rhino coffee so we didn’t have to go anyplace else for a decent cup of joe, and their beignets were crazy good! Small, flaky little pockets that were fried perfectly, served with a homemade jam that was fresh and not too sweet. Their boudin is from Bergeron’s so it’s quality smoked links, with an occasional chunk of tender meat wedged inside - delicious! Their biscuity and gravy was on point, with the gravy having generous amounts of sausage in it. The only thing that wasn’t completely satisfying, was the shrimp and grits, which has a base of tomato sauce and smallish sized shrimp. Nothing in the menu description mentions the tomato sauce, but if you add some scrambled eggs, it definitely makes it very tastier. In regards to the eggs: The kitchen is set up so the meals are served SUPER FAST, which means most items are pre-cooked, and kept warm so they can’t make food to order like fried eggs. That is not to say that is necessarily a bad thing, but it does means that modifications on the food are not really possible. However, with food this good, that’s served so quickly, at such a reasonable price, who cares? Just make sure you get there early for brunch, because once we left an hour after they opened, lines were forming already!

I can't believe it took me this long to finally try this place. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere extremely laid back, and the food was great. Pay attention to the dry erase sign board near the counter, otherwise we would have missed out on the cookie batter (I think it was called) beignets and they were amazing. Along with the beignets, we had an order of Cajun cheese fries (a mix of steak fries, a blend of melted shredded cheese, and jalapenos), Boudin Balls (which were the right temperature both in heat and spice, came with a tasty dipping sauce), my partner had the red beans and rice (I didn't taste it, but she seemed to enjoy it) and I had the Hurricane Katrina Burger po-boy. This monstrosity came in a thick paper wrapping that the juices flowing from turned the paper nearly transparent. You ever order something and when it came to you, you realize you've made a terrible mistake, but in the best way possible? Seriously, you have to try to this thing to understand just how wonderful it was. A ground beef burger patty, roast beef, bacon, tomato, lettuce, pickle, and I swear some other stuff, all packed in a po-boy. It was great. I look forward to eating the rest of it today! Will definitely be back!
