Mi Casita Restaurant — Restaurant in Silver City

Tried this place again after years of not going there because of a bad experience. We should have learned. Food was mediocre at best. There were a couple of redeeming items. The tacos were good! Also the green chile was very flavorful. The rest was pretty meh. The tamale was awful...no flavor. Didnt care for the rice. However hubby did like the green stuffed sopapillia but said it was a little rubbery. The service was not up to par either. Theyre only at 25% and had maybe 7 tables but 3 waitresses. Finally got someone to take our order...she hurriedly dropped off the food and thats the last we saw of her. No checking on us, no refills...nothing. No check was brought either. We had to stand in line for 20 min while she gave out to go orders, answered the phone, etc. We had to remind her where we had been sitting. Management needs to hire more help. Food is okay, typical Silver City-Mexican fair. Their customer service needs some assistance. Our waitress, older Hispanic lady seems as though she's been their since the place opened. Wait staff will only be friendly, smile or be cordial to those that they know. Seems to be the same every single time we go back. Have been going here for years and only go back because we have eaten everywhere else and go there as a last resort. This place seems to be busy for lunch, it is prepared fast so you can get back to work within an hour. I just wish that they would appreciate the tip you leave them. Ladies just remember that your tips are based on your performance, imagine if you smiled you might make more and so would your busser that assists you...

We are from Texas and love to read Tony Hillerman novels about New Mexico. One food item mentioned in his novels is stuffed sopapias which we don't get in Texas. We decided to try them at Mi Casita as we read rave reviews about this local restaurant. This place and the food is nothing less than ASTOUNDING! Great food, large quantities and just an excellent place. I think we were the only "tourists" in the place....packed with locals. A special treat from 11-3 Monday - Friday. Sure glad we went.
