I have read a lot of mixed reviews about experiences here, so I wanted to be sure to give them a shout-out after our experience this weekend. Having read a lot about experiences (especially right after opening when they were working out the kinks), we had hesitated for a bit. I cannot say this loudly enough: IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN TO CRITTERS OUTDOOR PIZZA, GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
We went to try them out this weekend (we had tried one another occasion during December, but they had run out of dough that evening). It was Sat around 4:45, and though there were no other customers when we arrived, around 5:30 it began to fill up quickly.
First and foremost, their 10" pizza IS NOT even close to that size. It was so big, I had to ask our server if she brought us someone else's order by mistake. It was more than enough for 2 adults and we had some to take home. The server said "we get that a lot - yea, our 20" is gigantic." I can imagine!
Second, their crust is SUPER thin and crispy, which is a huge plus for us as we usually wind up throwing out the crust at other places b/c it's just too much bread. It was baked to perfection and came out very quickly (under 15 min).
Third, the cheesy garlic bread is INSANE. Using the same dough as their pizza, so it's thin and is loaded with cheese, garlic and herbs ... š¤¤
Last, our server was delightful - very friendly and prompt to check on us. The only "not so great" thing we encountered was getting a canned soda for $2. We didn't realize it was canned when we ordered, but we know that now and would take that into consideration before ordering sodas again.
All-in-all, super fantastic experience and will definitely be back! ā at Critters...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I and 2 other couples decided to try Critters out this past Friday evening. I started following their Instagram and was intrigued by their message of high quality local sourced ingredients, and have been looking for a local pizza place near our home. However after our experience, I must say the hype did not live up to the reality for us. The first thing we noticed was that the health score was an 81. Although this isnāt the worst score, itās also not the best. BUT if the pizza and service was on point that easily can be overlooked. Next concern for us was that it took over an hour to receive 2 cheese breads and 6 small pizzas. Again, easy to overlook if the pizza and service were good since itās a Friday night and itās busy. However once we did receive our pizzas it was not at the quality Iāve seen on their social media. 3 out of the 6 pizzas were an under-done sloppy mess. The toppings were hurriedly thrown on top with whole slices missing toppings. It appeared that they were being rushed out of the ovens and the quality suffered. We had to send back a whole pizza because of how under-done it was. The prices were also a little steep but again, easily overlooked for a quality pie. All of that to say, I believe this place has great potential and I would love for it to succeed. In my humble opinion, I think the efficiency in the kitchen needs to improve to get food out quicker but also make sure each pizza maintains a consistent quality. I donāt mind waiting for great pizza but it also shouldnāt take over an hour for thin crust pizzas. I hope the improvements are made because Critters has an amazing local pizza joint vibe. Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited Critters on Halloween for pickup and was pleasantly surprised with how kind and courtesy the employees were on such a busy evening. I was offered a water with lemon while I waited on my order. This might not seem like much, but just the fact I was offered shows a level of courtesy you don't often see, especially when a restaurant is slammed.
I ordered a large pepperoni, a large Bless This House (their version of a supreme pizza, I think), and an order of their Vampire Repellant cheese bread. The pizzas were fantastic and had the perfect amount of toppings without overwhelming the flavors of the cheese, sauce, and crust. Bonus points for crisping the edges of the pepperoni. The Vampire Repellant was no joke; I was sweating garlic after finishing.
My only negatives are the size options and pricing. They only have two sizes, small (10") and really, really big (20"). There were 4 of us and some kids eating, so we opted for large pizzas. Two large pizzas and cheese bread (with tip) was over $80. To be fair, these were 20" which are quite a bit bigger than typical large pizzas. Still though, toeing the line of $100 for two pizzas and cheese bread was a bit of a shock. We still love the place and will definitely go back, but the pricing and size options will make this one of our "Special Occasion"...
