I ate at Home Folks with a group of friends on Sunday 06/07/20. When you are seated, you are given a menu and told that the food is “unlimited” and they will bring you more if you request more. I ordered a few items that looked good, and so did the others at my table. When the first round of food arrived, I was given a side salad with ranch. The entree and sides I ordered didn’t arrive. After eating my side salad and waiting 20-30 minutes-I got to order again. I also want to note that I was the only person at my table that did not receive an entree as a part of the first round. It was around the 40 minute mark after being seated that I was able to convince the wait staff to bring me an entree-I was really very hungry at this point. Before our party left-3 of the 6 of us wanted a small tray of BBQ, and we asked if they would please bring us 3 little metal trays of the BBQ. A server brought us 1 small tray of BBQ and told us that “was enough BBQ for 3 people to eat.” Years ago when a buffet was available this place was ok, but now it appears the staff is intentionally trying to starve their customers to maximize their profit margin. I paid $14.00 for my meal, and the staff did not want to bring me the menu items I asked them to bring me. Myself and the friends that dined there that day do not plan to eat there anymore. With the self serve buffet no longer offered, they should probably re-brand their business as...
Read moreBoy! was I pleasantly surprised! Went to Soddy Daisy to pick up my father-in-law to take back to Birmingham. My son and grandson went with me for the ride. My father-in-law suggested we have lunch before hitting the road. He suggested HOME FOLKS and we sure are glad he did. We didn't realize when we went in that it was a family buffet (all you can eat) restaurant. When the server set us straight we all ordered something different and to our liking. When the food arrived quickly it looked delicious. Because of the "pandemic" they are not allowed to have a serving bar for the customers to make their selections so they bring it so you in individual serving dishes so an table for four men filled the table with a wide assortment of food of every kind of meat and vegetable. The most pleasant surprise was how every bite was fantastic! There was not a dish that was not anything but excellent! If you like southern family home style cooking then this is the place to go! Take your whole family and half of your friends! I guarantee you'll go back again and again. I assure you, the next time I go to Soddy Daisy I will be making a stop in at HOME FOLKS and...
Read moreMany advertise "home cooking." Problem is....it's NOT. Anyone can open a can and put some heat to it. I was making a delivery in the area (first time to even be in the town) and I searched on Google Maps for something other than the normal chain. I passed over a hibachi place and chose Home Folks. The place was crowded and busy, yet I was greeted by several employees. The food looked like it would be anywhere else, but the taste made the difference. Select veggies that were seasoned just right. They had some cream corn that was nothing like I had ever had. Something put in that made the cream a little sweeter. So good. The fried chicken. Oh my goodness. I usually pass on fried chicken because it's usually not done right. This was perfectly better with a season blend fried to juicy crisp. They can broil some fish too. The desserts weren't skimpy. Three, yes 3, special cakes and banana pudding. I was disappointed that the banana pudding was made with pudding mix, but still put together nicely. The sweet tea was awesome. Not too sweet, just right. If you're in the area, give it a try. I'm confident you'll...
