Overall, my mother and I enjoyed ourselves. There are some areas for improvement but let's start with the positives.
The house is beautiful and the tea cups, place settings, and tables were classically "afternoon tea". They even have an outside patio in the back so you can eat outside on a nice day. The screen doors were open to the main tea room when we were there which allowed for a nice breeze. The tea was tasty and we were pleased with the baked brie (huge!) and the tiered platter. They even have traditional hats you can wear if you want to have a little more fun with your outing. The server and owner are friendly.
Parking can be a little tricky but I was told there's additional parking across the street if the driveway parking lot is full. We arrived at 1:30 for a 1:30 reservation but weren't sat until 2:00. When we were sat, we weren't tended to for another 15 minutes. 45 minutes into the reservation and still no tea! There were only 3-4 other parties in the tea room at the time. Once we did order, it didn't take too long for everything to come out. They didn't have clotted cream the day we went which was disappointing as it's a key component of traditional afternoon tea and scones. The curd and jam they had were yummy. We didn't realize there was a strainer for the tea until our second cup. The finger sandwiches were tasty but the server didn't share what each was when she brought it over which would've been helpful. Tea sandwiches were "open face" for the most part, except for the chicken salad.
All in all we enjoyed ourselves and the food/tea were tasty. The service was very slow when we arrived which caused some initial frustration but ended up being fine by the...
Read moreIâve been taking my mom here for Motherâs Day for the past several years. I am sad to be writing a less than stellar review, but the experience we had today was enough where I will be looking for a new Motherâs Day tradition.
The tea is very good and the tiers are what youâd expect. Some of the snacks are hit or miss, but you are mainly there for the tea.
Our experience went downhill after we paid. We were chatting and sipping on the last of our tea when our server came over in a huff. She interrupted our conversation to loudly ask in front of the whole dining room whether the service we received was âokayâ. We all look confused and taken aback and say the service was fine.
She then points at my sister who split the bill with me and said âwell she left a tipâ and then points at me âand you didnât so, just wanted to make sure the service was acceptableâ.
Now, I had left a tip on the reader they brought out to us of 20% and so had my sister.
I told her as much and she seemed to not believe me, as she hovered there for an uncomfortable amount of time reiterating that she didnât âsee a tipâ from me.
She leaves the table and comes back a few minutes later to announce that she found the missing tip, and that they were having internet problems so thatâs why it didnât initially show up. She gave a sort of half baked apology and walked off.
While itâs generally not good practice in the service industry to grill customers about their tip anyways, if you are going to do it you better make absolutely sure you have the correct information.
This left a seriously sour taste in our mouths, and despite the cute decor and good tea, we wonât be back after...
Read moreMy visit at 'The Old Mill English Tea Room ' was a great experience. I brought my girlfriend there for a surprise birthday lunch because she loves tea. OMG! We enjoyed it so much. Beginning with our greeter and home owner Heather and our hostess Cheryl. Although even the other hostess was just as pleasant and stopped at our table to ask if we were okay. They all really welcomed us. We started out with picking a hat to wear to our tea and took pictured with Queen Elizabeth (cardboard stand). It just started the ambience of a delightful tea luncheon. Needless to say, we will be going back...
