Rocco's Restaurant has all the accoutrements and ambiance that points towards a place being what would broadly be considered "classic". There are decades of pictures and signed memorabilia on the walls, furnishings that appear out of the 1950s or earlier, and low lighting that is about as far from the modern fluorescent nightmare that is present in many modern establishments.
For our visit, the restaurant was pretty packed on that Saturday night. We were still able to be seated quickly at a table that was clean and ready for occupancy. The noise level was pretty high, but not out of the norm for the number and variety of people that were in the space.
We got prompt and friendly service from both our waitress and the trainee with her for drinks, appetizers, and pizza. We opted to share a meatball appetizer, which was essentially two meatballs in marinara sauce. They were fairly standard fare - the texture of the balls was light and loose and the sauce was sweet but not cloyingly so. The only thing I'd opt for differently next time would be to also order a bread-based appetizer to be able to eat more of the sauce.
The pizza was definitely the star of the meal! We opted for a medium sausage and pepperoni. I judge pizza mostly on the crust before anything else - and this crust was fantastic! It was flaky and crisp, yet structurally sound such that you could hold an entire slice horizontally with minimal "floppage". The closest style analog that came to mind was Chicago tavern style crust, which is a favorite of mine as well.
On a return visit to South Bend I'd definitely come here again. Every part of the experience was what I'd expect for good local pizza and more. Thanks Rocco's for the...
Read moreMy partner and I enjoy trying local pizzerias around town and Rocco’s is the best pizza we’ve had in South Bend! The pizza was flavorful and had the perfect crisp, as we prefer our pizza to be crispy.
The service was excellent from the moment we entered the place. As soon as we walked inside, we were greeted by the host, he took our name down, and gave us a 15-20 minute wait during their busy hour. A kind lady seated us and we had an amazing waitress. She was kind, immediately took our drink orders, and placed our food order within a timely manner. Our pizza did take a while because something occurred during the process, so they were going to remake it and the waitress gave us some delicious cheese bread and marinara sauce “on them” to make up for that. The wait was totally worth it, the prices are reasonable, the experience overall is amazing.
It is not common to get good customer service and quality food nowadays, so coming here and experiencing their customer service was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had.
We will definitely continue to support Rocco’s and enjoy their...
Read moreI recently dined at Rocco’s Restaurant and left utterly disappointed. While the servers were friendly and attentive, the food quality left much to be desired. The pizza I ordered was undercooked and soggy, making it nearly inedible.
To make matters worse, during the meal, the server accidentally spilled wine all over my shirt. While accidents happen, what truly shocked me was the lack of concern from the owner. Not only did they fail to offer an apology, but they also seemed indifferent to the situation altogether.
Overall, the combination of undercooked pizza and lackluster customer service makes Rocco’s Pizzeria a place I won’t return to anytime soon. If you’re looking for a satisfying dining experience, I suggest exploring...
