South Bend Scottish Rite — Attraction in South Bend

Beautiful place for events - However, went to a wedding and had a handicap guest with us. We left around 8pm and all the handicap entrance/ exits were locked! Called the designated person for help and no answer. We had no prior communications before the exits were locked. This was also very embarrassing for our guest as she had to struggle up a flight of stairs in order to leave the building. Of course we are human and make mistakes but then not be able to contact anyone after several attempts is not excusable.

Response after owners response : Apologies for not clarifying this was not the direct doors leading to the outside but the Elevator/ chair lift that was leading to those exits. Staff was not found for 30 minutes and no one offered to help during the struggle to climb the stairs.

Afterfinally receiving a call back regarding this issue: (15 hours later)

We are very sad regarding the outcome of this call. During the phone conversation, after bringing up our concerns, there were inappropriate jokes made about how "we would have found her in the morning" if she was left down there. Scott seemed very unempathetic about the issue stating "I'm done with this conversation since there seems to be no issue". Please be extra careful if you have loved ones that are disabled.

This building was built in 1924 and has been immaculately maintained. It has original marble and travertine floors and beautiful woodwork throughout the building. The Cathedral is amazing with vaulted ceilings that have unique hand carved beams. This 6 story building has many beautiful rooms that are a step back in time with hand crafted furniture and decor elements that take you back to the roaring 20's when things were made to last. The Grand Ballroom is a spacious room with 17' ceilings with draperies and lights. The handicap entrance is on the North side of the building. It is a sight you must see yourself...a hidden gem...

This was nothing less than a great entry level experience to classical music with an ambient setting that was as settling as it was moving. The artists prepare the audience with some lighthearted dialogue and a fundamentally simple explanation to the structure of their performance and how it was going to be executed. This particular venue is in South bend and travelling requires adjusting your time to Eastern standard to be at the event at the time...
