Billy the Kid's Seafood-Steakhouse — Restaurant in South Carolina

My recent visit to Billy the Kid's Seafood Restaurant was unfortunately a disappointing one. While the atmosphere was quaint with its vintage decor, the quality of the food and service left much to be desired.

I opted for the seafood platter, which included oysters, shrimp, and fish. The breaded and fried shrimp were decent, but the fried oysters were hit or miss. One particularly large oyster contained a large shell, which was a unpleasant surprise. My wife's stuffed flounder, while visually appealing, was described as greasy and mushy. The accompanying crab portion was essentially a crab cake.

The hush puppies, served with cinnamon butter, tasted as if they had been fried in the same oil as the seafood.

The service was slow, despite the restaurant being relatively empty. With only two waitresses attending to seven tables, it was clear that the staff was overwhelmed.

Overall, I would not recommend Billy the Kid's Seafood Restaurant. If you're seeking a satisfying seafood experience, I suggest...

Edit 10-23 Karaoke is much improved. Jessie and Mike alternate nights on the weekend. Both are excellent KJ's with a large selection of songs. Jackie and Melissa behind the bar are the best. Tell Melissa she has ugly legs, but be ready for your neighbors to pummel you. LOL!

+++++ Maxwells is a place for locals. Great atmosphere and Karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights with Benni Nations. The food is reasonably priced and good as well.

Edit: Lately the Karaoke has been managed by Lynn Dallas. He's rude, frequently puts his friends up several times in a row, and has a very small music collection. I don't know how he stays in business, none of my karaoke friends anywhere in NMB like the man. The staff at Maxwells continues to be friendly and attentive.

Edit: 5-9-23 Menu prices have gone up and for a bar menu the choices are very limited. There are some good seafood options if you like that however. This place doesn't have a full service bar, so don't get crazy ordering...

When we arrived there were two tables already being served. One person seated us & said our server would be with us shortly. After a short wait the server brought our menus & took our drink order. After another longer wait she brought our orders. I asked for tartar sauce & after she left she was stopped by the other tables. It was several minutes before she brought out the tartar while waiting I realized she didn't bring my slaw with the entree. I asked about my slaw, she had forgotten. Everything was so chaotic by then several other customers arrived. I never saw another sever during this waiting tables. I have no idea what was going on but don't blame the server, she had to stop & check us out. Never saw the lady that seated us. Service was terrible, entrees was less that we expected based on price.
