Wando River Grill — Restaurant in South Carolina

Update to my review 5/13/2024 Had dinner on Mother's Day. Realize they were busy but not slammed compared to a Friday or Saturday. The hostesses and servers are inexperienced and I'm thankful the restaurant gives them an opportunity but management needs to train them. There wasn't any ketchup on our table or surrounding tables. We were seated outdoors by the hostess station and asked them for ketchup since we couldn't find our server "be right back" never to be seen again. Checked condiment station outside and all were empty then went inside to check tables and it took 5 tables to find a filled ketchup bottle which I took out side and diners at adjacent tables asked to share. I ordered my favorite shrimp scampi and the bread was missing and I was told "sorry we are out of it". Also heard many complaints from surrounding tables about slow service and food coming out wrong from kitchen. I don't blame servers or hostesses, I blame management. Food was excellent. Love this place and want them to succeed.

Update to my review** Another awesome dinner. Live music, beautiful view, and super awesome server Hunter. Had the ravioli, only thing is I wish they had a slice of focaccia with it to soak up the delicious sauce. Seriously, the sauce was so good I hated to leave a single drop on my plate.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Devin who was our server tonight. Thank you so much for making dinner a special night for our daughter Daphne. She is an adult with autism who is our people meter. If she likes you, you are gold. Most do not speak to Daphne directly and speak to my husband or I instead. Devin didn’t miss a beat, spoke to Daphne directly, and Daphne picked up on her golden personality and ordered her dinner and drink confidently which unfortunately is not common. Devin thank you for your kindness. Oh BTW the shrimp and grits and the short rib were awesome too!

Update to my 9/1 visit. Had dinner this evening. Can't beat dinner on the banks of the Wando with a cool breeze and live music. Thrilled that garlic bread was added to the shrimp linguine entree to enjoy the sauce. Sydney was our server and...

Sunday dinner with my husband, not busy at all. Got seated right away inside with a nice view and cold beer. Order the Buffalo Oysters which were fabulous, crispy topped with blue cheese crumbles and a nice presentation. Our server was also fabulous. We were looking forward to a great meal. After that the meal QUICKLY WENT DOWNHILL. We both ordered the market fish which was Snapper. It came out pan sautéed with a crisp exterior but unfortunately was overdone and absolutely no seasoning. No salt, no anything so it was dry and flavorless. My husbands side of green beans were crunchy and raw and his mashed potatoes were both unseasoned and bland. My side of succotash was hard undercooked limas and corn that was under seasoned and just not appealing at all. I am extreme vegetable fan so I was very disappointed. My extra side of brussel sprouts looked good and were crispy but were hard as a rock inside and again absolutely no seasoning of any kind, no salt, no pepper, no balsamic glaze, nothing! Entrees at $30 each were a complete disappointment. What could have been delicious entrees if executed properly were a disaster. I feel certain the head chef and owner would be extremely embarrssed to have served these dishes. Thank you Dog and Duck for being open every time I try to go to the Wando River Grill. Apparently the management at Wando River Grill could not possibly care less if you looked at their website and expected them to be open the hours they post online. If you enjoy being waited on by high school students that have never work in the food and beverage industry before the Wando River Grill is the place you're looking for. Yes, the location will probably save this restaurant, but as a patron you have been warned, the location is by far the highlight of this place. Eat somewhere else, and have alternate plans if want to have a drink with friends. The hours this place keeps would make most bankers jealous!

Update So 4 years later we heard this establishment was under new management. Reluctantly we gave it another try. The service was great and the atmosphere was amazing. We had one appetizer and a bottle of wine which is why I rated the place 4 stars rather than 5. If we make it back for dinner I’ll update again!

Update to my Update Ignore my high praise above. Same $hit as the previous management. I loaded up two cars with kids and grandparents to enjoy a beautiful Friday evening dinner and got turned around at the door because they were having a private Christmas party.
