Vanilla Bean — Restaurant in South Kingstown

Unfortunately I stopped here 15 minutes before closing with my fiancé and was sad to see the door and window closed. After standing at the window with the girl inside ignoring us and shooting us dirty looks it was apparent we would not be served. I was disappointed because had not been here in several years despite living down the street. I was inspired to stop back in after being at BankRI and overhearing the changes the new owner was excitedly making. Especially with a new ice cream shop in the next plaza over it’s important to put your best foot forward. It’s disappointing to drive over and not be served - the hours online say that you are open until 10 PM. I showed up at 8:43 - judging by the girl inside she was supposed to be open until 9 PM. As a business owner it’s something I stress with my employees every day. Closing at a specific time means closing at that time, not shutting everything down BY that time. Sure - start sweeping and mopping and prepping to close but shutting down and ignoring customers is not the way to go. I hope to come back later this summer to a better experience. I want to start off by saying the kids are always top notch and always do a WONDERFUL job.

Theres no more quarts.... pints are now the largest option and it cost as much as a quart was.

I have had a few encounters with an older guy who has always been in a VERY bad mood and rushing around for no reason as I was the only one in the store... he had also made me 2 shakes that had the consistency of milk and when I said something about it, he told me it would cost extra for another scoop of ice cream 🤦‍♂️... I'm almost positive it was the owner as well..... so, in turn, I only go there maybe once a year now. It's too bad been going there forever. I know I sound like a negative nancy but that guy has always been...

Our daughter has celiac disease and we do our best to talk to managers and employees if its safe/have options for us.

My wife spoke to a manager in the morning while getting a coffee and she informed us that yes, it is gluten free and they will use all clean utensils and brand new buckets of ice cream. After hearing this we did feel comfortable.

We went later that night, informed the staff and they got us a kiddie vanilla ice cream. Later that night my daughter was incredibly sick. We believe there was some sort of cross contamination that happened.

Long story short, if you are gluten free, be careful and ask more questions when coming here. Ice cream otherwise...
