First time here was the first nice Sunday of this spring. Pair that with a car show and the place was quite busy. Instead of standing in line to order I downloaded the app and used it instead. I placed an order for a breakfast sandwich, breakfast burrito, and an ice coffee drink. The app said about 25 minutes. I figured that was normal, it's not a fast food place so I went to sit outside. 20 minutes later I went inside in case my order was ready ahead of schedule since it has happened before at other places. About 5 minutes later they called my name and I went up and saw the iced coffee waiting with the receipt. I got the coffee and waited a few minutes for the food. It didn't come out so I brought the coffee to the person it was for outside. I went back in and waited a few more minutes but nothing. I decided I'd rather wait outside and just check the app to see if it would let me know when the food was ready. I saw someone I knew outside and talked to them for awhile. A guy on a motorcycle couldn't get his bike to start so we push started him in the parking lot. My friend was leaving so I went back in to get the food. I figured it was waiting by now. Still not there. This time I noticed a sign on the counter that said food will take 1 hour. Ok that's twice as long as the app said but it must be close to an hour by now so it should be ready soon. The little girl sitting at the table selling girl scout cookies asked if I would like any. I said no thanks I already have a bunch at home. Her mom reminds her to let me know I can buy a box to donate. I go inside and they call my name. I get the bag with my breakfast burrito in it. No breakfast sandwich though. Oops it's not ready it will be a few more minutes but they gave me a light up buzzer this time. I wait a few minutes and the buzzer goes off. I bring it up and place it on the counter. Someone goes in the back and brings it out to me. I bring the food outside and give the breakfast sandwich to the person who ordered it. They take it out and take a bite. No bacon. The order included bacon for an extra charge. I go back in and wait a couple minutes at the counter until someone acknowledges me after helping other people. I let them know there was no bacon and I can take it on the side. They go back and bring me two pieces of bacon. I bring them outside. Now it's been over an hour an a half since I placed the order. I think my burrito had a little bit of bacon and no sausage on it even though I got it loaded for $5 more. The burrito was good, the egg sandwich was good and the iced coffee was good but by the time I'm thirsty and I'm not going back in to stand in line for a drink after after I tipped "to insure promptness." I realize it was a busy day and they had a lot of orders but they didn't look understaffed. There was no water out for customers and I wasn't about wait in line to buy a bottled water after that. I'm probably not going to go back but the food was decent. $30 was a lot for a breakfast burrito that took an hour and a half and an egg sandwich that came...

The baristas, true artisans, take their time crafting each pour-over. I opted for their signature blend, the "Morning Song", a dance of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Colombian beans. With every sip, I tasted dark chocolate, ripe berries, and a hint of floral sweetness—a harmonious composition.
But let's dive deeper into the coffee symphony Birdhouse offers:
Morning Song: The star of the show, this blend is a morning ritual. It greets you with a gentle crescendo of flavors, awakening your senses for the day ahead.
Sunrise Serenade: A light roast that sings notes of citrus and jasmine. Perfect for those who prefer a delicate melody in their cup.
Velvet Sonata: A medium-dark roast with undertones of caramel and toasted hazelnuts. It's like a warm embrace on a chilly afternoon.
Midnight Rhapsody: For the night owls, this bold blend boasts dark chocolate, smoky cedar, and a touch of mystery. Pair it with a slice of their decadent chocolate cake.
And the pastries deserve a standing ovation. The blueberry scone, flaky and buttery, burst with juicy blueberries. Paired with my coffee, it was a delightful duet.
But Birdhouse Coffee isn't just about the brew; it's about connections. Locals gather here, sharing stories, laughter, and sometimes a game of chess. It's a haven—a place where caffeine meets camaraderie.
The rustic wooden decor, soft jazz, and friendly baristas create an inviting ambiance. Whether you're seeking a morning pick-me-up or an evening refuge, Birdhouse Coffee hits all the right notes.
So, if you find yourself in South Windsor, follow the melody to Birdhouse Coffee. It's more than coffee; it's a soulful tune—a reminder that life's best moments happen over a cup of warmth.

Read moreOkay I completely understand being overwhelmed when it's very busy but I went there for the Halloween party so you'd think they would have thought about staffing or maybe just not offered a full menu? Anyway I was famished and didn't want to drink on an empty stomach. Unfortunately I can't eat gluten so I asked the girl at the register if they had any gf options and she said they have bread. ... Ok cool that's more than most places have, sadly. Then she tells me they have pulled pork which is gf but it's served on regular buns. I asked if they could just put the pork on the gf bread and she went to ask the kitchen staff and they said no. I said well can I get the meat and the gf bread separately and make my own sandwich? And she said no because the kitchen workers were busy. I feel like grabbing a scoop of meat and some bread would be easier than making several sliders but I digress. I gave 1 star for food because I'll never know how the food was as I don't think I'll be going back there, and 1 star for service because, well, it wasn't good service for someone who can't eat gluten. I would have waited for the kitchen to slow down, but no, I was told a firm no. Bad customer service. Other food places please take note. Gluten intolerant and celiac people have a hard enough time as it is to find food while still feeling "normal" so that experience was a bummer and I left the party right after that since I didn't want to give money to a place that wouldn't even take a few minutes to accommodate a good allergy. And I understand they're busy, it's not like it's an official restaurant or anything, and I am not entitled to eat there, but come on. It happens allll the time and I was hangry so it was extra annoying and I am writing this to let other GF people know that they should keep this in mind if they think they'll be able to eat there. It's a super cute setup and the coffee is decent so I didn't want to give a...
